This works, but you need to remove a piece first
This DOES fit the Navigator Deluxe NV42 31, but you have to unscrew the thumb notch connector from the new hose before installation. Maybe Shark changed the design at some point??? It was super easy to unscrew... nice neat threads. You can then screw that exposed/unfinished end of the hose into the side and insert the other connector into the vacuumed head. Very simple to swap out. Removing the older, gross, caked on hose was the most difficult part of this project!

Perfect fit on my NV42 26
I took a gamble on this since seller indicated it only fits model NF42 31. I got it installed without any issue and its working perfectly on my NV42 26 without a hitch.

Economic replacement part.
Easy and quick to replace the bad part for my vacuum cleaner. Could not be happier.

This does not fit the Shark Deluxe Navigator Model NV42_31
I purchased it because it is supposed to fit my model. But it doesn't. I ended up breaking the housing to make it fit, because it seems like there is no part for this unit.
