Work great, esp when insulated
Took these on a wilderness medicine trip where we have an "unexpected night out" as in pack for a day hike but stay the night. Temperature got down to the 30's with lots of wind in California mountains and by the nature of the exercise we had no sleeping bag or tent. Huddled under a makeshift shelter made of a mylar emergency blanket, these hot hand warmers were pretty crucial to our "survival." (ie. we were able to make it through the night without bailing on the exercise and going into the "tap-out" tent.) Took about 15 minutes to warm up once the package was opened. I opened one up at 5pm and kept it in my pocket next to my stomach, and it was still hot (like almost burning) at like midnight. I only opened one at a time so I was still cold everywhere outside of the warmer but if I had multiple going in different pockets I would have been very comfortable and toasty. These warmers are about the size of the palm of my hand.

the expire date on the package is 10/2019 so these are good for several seasons
These critters get hot enough to warm the coldest hands. I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how warm these things get and will be using them inside my pockets and my surplus arctic mitts. The one I used to test the batch lasted for 13 1/2 hours and generated maximum warmth for all but the last half hour. I believe that it may have lasted for the advertised 18 hours if it was kept in an enclosed space such as a pocket, mitten, boot, etc where the oxygen levels would become depleted and allow for a slower chemical reaction. Of course that would mean less warmth over that period too but being enclosed the warmth would slowly build to a toasty level within a short period of time. As with other hand warmers of this type I have found that if they are stubborn to warm up, blowing warm moist air into the package seems to get the reaction started. As far as being a body warmer I suppose that if you used a couple near your kidneys and under arms it would help warm your blood and so warm your body. I've not tried it but am guessing. The size of the individual warmers is, 4.5 X 3.5 X 3/16 approximate. I hope that helps.....By the way, the expire date on the package is 10/2019 so these are good for several seasons.

Very good to have when working in the cold
Very good to have when working in the cold.I put one in a shirt pocket, and one in a pants pocket, when dressed against the cold and wind. They are very effective at reducing the chill. If I finish with them before they're used up, I put them in a small zip-lock bag, squeeze the air out, and seal the bag. Once the oxygen in the bag is gone, they turn off. If I need them in a few days, they will restart once taken out of the bag. This doesn't seem to work after more than a few days, though.

I'm a reptile owner and snowboarder in Colorado but maybe I got a bad batch?
I've shaken one up on a cold day in Colorado for myself but generally use this product for my reptiles. I use them when traveling across the country. In the past 10 years of use I've had only a few hothands warmers not work quite as well but I swear to you this entire bag was crap. I purchased them to use in a coast to coast drive and when testing a hothands the night before, it did NOT GET HOT. Panicked, I opened a second, third, fourth, etc., shook as directed, waited. None of them were getting hot. Went back to the 1st one to see if it just needed time, re-shaking, and air? Nope. Re-shook all the open ones and no luck. They did get "warm" but became hard, cold, and unusable after <4 hours. Disappointed in what is generally a great product - not sure if I had a bad batch or product close to expiration?

Stays toasty for hours.
I get really bad migraines and hot compresses (hot towels) help soothe my symptoms but it cools so fast so I started looking for an alternative longer lasting solution and stumbled on HotHands. They take some time to heat (package says 15-30 min but it's closer to 15) but once they heat up, they get pretty hot but not uncomfortably so. I've used them for headaches, congestion, and stomachaches and it really helps my symptoms. If they start to cool, just shake them up again and they can stay hot for hours (my mom estimated 15 hours).

A great alternative to using the smaller size.
This larger size is great. It holds heat longer and I the size is better for applying heat to a larger area. This has been a particularly cold winter and this size has kept me warm on the days when I have had to work the night shift in the cold. This size does seem to get hotter than the hand held size so I do not recommend leaving it unattended on any surface that is heat sensitive. However, if you use with carefully this really does provide hours of warmth.

Still Warm After 12 Hours. Best On the Market.
I have bought off brand warmers before and wasn't pleased. I have bought Hot Hands before and never had a problem. The same holds true for these also. Although the "big" 5 x 7's are advertised as "body" warmers I found that these are perfect to stick in your coat pockets for the hands. They took about 15-20 minutes to warm up but lasted over 12 hours once they did.

Long lasting
Bought these before a hunting trip at 10, 000 feet. It was colder than expected and I turned out to be the hero. We opened them up in the evening when the sun went down and used them in our sleeping bags for the perfect warmth. They still had enough heat to last through the morning. I couldn't be happier. You do need to give them about twenty more or more to really warm up.
