The Frankenstein Chronicles: Season 2 [DVD]

THE STUFF OF NIGHTMARES
Grim and scary, even more so than the horrific Season 1. Daniel Harvey has played at God, trying to create new life from dismembered body parts and severed hearts. John Marlott now represents his "first born". Languishing in an asylum, tormented by jagged memories and alarming hallucations, the former Inspector struggles to understand what has happened to him. (Be advised that, just as he is for a while greatly confused, the viewer is likely to be too.) Once escaped, his mind clearer, Marlott's aim is revenge on Harvey and all those polluting civilization with their dastardly deeds....Six episodes. Normally I binge-watch, but found events here so powerfully affecting, one at a time proved enough. (By the way, shame on whoever decided to include spoilers before closing credits - totally unnecessary and reducing impact.)Highly involving in every respect. Sean Bean impressively heads a fine cast. It now includes Laurence Fox as obsessed aristocrat Dipple, his automatons primitive precursers of what is now known as Artificial Intelligence. 1820's London slums are portrayed most realistically (with occasional glimpses of humanity thankfully to uplift). So many themes are explored: Home Secretary Robert Peel trying to establish law and order; the dastardly Dean of Westminster poisoning water supplies to force out local residents, the selling of the site to bring the Church (and him) handsome dividends. So much is going on, here at various levels a real struggle between forces for good and evil. How can the truth of such events be brought to the attention of all? (Note that reporter. His identity may surprise!)Challenges are so powerful, what hope for an even faintly optimistic outcome? Many viewers may well emerge drained, but there can surely be no denying that all concerned have achieved most tellingly what they set out to do.

A TRULY DARK AND SINISTER SEQUEL
John Marlott (Sean Bean) a former Thames Inspector had been hanged for a murder he did not commit, he had been framed because he had got to close to uncovering the truth about the dark and unholy goings-on behind the walls ofBethlem Hospital and the scientist he believed responsible Lord Daniel Hervey (Ed Stoppard)Maybe as an act of irony John has been brought back to life but is kept in chains at the hospital..................................he escapes, but has to become invisible to the outside world, he chooses to try and live among the peasants of Westminster and finds work and changes his name to Jack MartinsHowever when a series of murders come to light the esapee from the hospital is blamed, former friend and colleagueJoseph Nightingale is given the task of tracking down the killer/escapee.....but if Joseph finds John, who will believehim ?John suffers flashbacks from the past and is also tortured by the knowledge that he carries the heart of someone murdered to give him life........his main aims are to bring down those he blames for the crimes and his situation andprove his innocents.....however along the way he'll begin to understand that there is much corruption among those who should be trusted such as the Church and Politicians he will also realise the depravation of the poor living in the area....even their dead have no dignity.A truly dark and sinister sequel, in my view even better than the first series..........with a third to come, can't wait to seewhere it takes us................Worth a viewing in my opinion

Frankenstein chronicles end.
After series 1 you are left on a cliff hanger, it's good to see series 2 to see how it all ends.

Muddled
Definately not as good as series one. I know it can be difficult to follow up on a great first series, but I found the screen play - for want of a better word - muddles and confusing. It was as if the writer/director hads this image of what they wanted to portray but could put it into practice. About half way through things started to make sense, but I would expect that would have been a bit too late for anyone other than Sean Bean addicts. Not sure if I would buy a third series if it was produced. I'd have to see if the screenwriter/director were the same.

The Frankenstein Chronicles: Season 2.
A good sequel to the first series; the first episode provides some catch-up and orientation to the ongoing plot so far (this series starts 3 years after the end of the first).Marlott has the ability to see the dead, but this is not immediately apparent (even to him) so together with flashbacks, hallucinations and dream sequences the narrative is a little confusing until one gets to grips with the threads of the new storyline. As with the initial series, historical characters are depicted alongside the fictional and the location settings continue the evocative, grimy Gothic feel of the London environs of the 1840s.A memorable, haunting series that throws up some intelligent and thoughtful ideas and another inventive riff on the Frankenstein mythology. The 6 episodes are spread across the two DVDs 3 to a disc; there is a 5-minute “making of” featurette on disc 2; English subtitles are available if required.

Deliciously dark.
Well, Series 1 was OKish. The final episode left me a little cold, although overall it did a pretty good job. But Series 2 comes right up to the mark. The role of John Marlot is right up Mr Bean's...Sean's that is...street. He's almost as good as Sharpe, a role that was made for him. This romp through the gutters of Georgian London is delightfully dark and somewhat putrid. I love it. Historically correct details too, the birth of 'Peels Militia'; the Met Police, resurrectionists, cholera, plague and rotting fish. Brilliant...more of this please. Not quite so good as 'Penny Dreadful', but it's getting there.

tolle Serie
Die 2. Staffel kann mit der 1. Staffel mithalten, düster und manchmal etwas gruselig. Hoffentlich gibt es eine 3. Staffel.

Super Serie - Unbefriedigendes Produkt
Eine tolle Serie. Unbedingt empfehlenswert.
