KiddeQuick Convert Firex Adapter - KA-F2, 2-Pack

Converted my new Firex smoke detectors to fit the original hard wired detectors in less than a minute! Easy peasy!!

These adapters worked as expected so that I could install new smoke detectors using the original wiring and connector from the old smoke detectors.

Would have been easy to pull the connections and install directly but this made it into a 30 second job instead of a 30 minute one. Now we are ready for any generational connection design that comes around.

I had to replace old smoke detectors. I am not an electrician. These connectors allowed me to complete the job without having to hire an electrician. The connections on the new smoke detectors and the power supply are different than the old ones. Theses connectors mad the job easy.

This is exactly what was needed to connect new smoke detectors to the current connections. It took a bit of extra effort to ensure that the sides of the connectors went fully into the harness in the ceiling, but that made me feel better about having to jostle the wiring back into the ceiling before putting the detectors in place on the plate. It was a tight fit. I feel good that I have new detectors in place and that they are working properly without having to do any wiring work.

I found these adapters difficult to work with. The old cable does not easily snap into the new one. I had trouble getting the old to new connector to snap completely together. The tabs did not fully engage. Also the old plug in has a large wing/tab on it. It takes a lot of space in the electrical box. These came two to a package with no instructions or brand label. Since they did not snap together easily, I thought they might have been knock offs. It would have been easier to hard-wire the detector.

Had an 18 year old set of pre-wired smoke detectors that needed replacing. These adapters shaped right on to the existing wiring harnesses and connected right up to the new smoke detectors. All I had to replace were the old mounting brakets which took less than a minute each.

My smoke detectors are from 2005, and have a cutout on the wiring that accepts the plastic nub that people are saying is useless. If you do not have an old setup, the adapter probably will need to be modified
