Works on wood, too
I was worried whether this was really ok for wood, when the can didn't mention anything but steel. It has worked fine for me, and also here's the official word from Diamond Bright:"Thank you for your inquiry. Diamond Brite Industrial Primer, 25-31900, is a high quality industrial, oil-based primer suitable for use on a wide variety of properly prepared substrates, including ferrous metal, wood, masonry, plaster, etc. When priming new redwood, it is recommended that the board's moisture content, by weight, is not greater than 12% - for best results, and due to the cellular structure and porosity of redwood, it is recommended that all sides of the board be primed. Redwood typically is rich in tannin, and may result in "tannin bleed", or staining, of freshly painted board. The application of an oil-based primer generally blocks tannin bleed (as tannin is a water soluble acid), but due to the porous nature of redwood, two coats will be more effective at blocking tannin stains than will one coat. For best performance results, apply in thin coats, and allow 24 hours to dry before applying second coat. Product is best applied by brush, or spray, and is NOT recommended to be thinned. Clean-up tools and spills with Mineral Spirits.BobRDL Marketing, Incdba Diamond Brite Paint"

Excellent
THIS is the primer for the cement floor finish. I am using this so I can have an inspection to get a valuation of my home so I can get a reverse mortgage. My carpet was such a mess it just had to be removed. The gentleman I’m working with said a painted floor would be acceptable for the valuation. This product worked beautifully ……now I can get my appraisal.

Works great in HVLP Spray Gun
This primer sprays on super smooth with my HVLP gun. It's definitely on the thicker side, but it still sprayed on great. No need to thin it with anything. Drys to the touch in 4-5 hrs and is sandable after 12 hrs. Really doesn't stink that bad either, other oils I've sprayed have been much much more toxic smelling. The 1 gallon can arrived beat-up on the edges but no leaks, just as others have mentioned in comments. Diamond Brite's customer service seems non-existent since they won't return emails or pickup the phone. I wanted to ask about thinning this stuff, but went ahead and tried it straight-up and it worked great as is. So for the money and quality this stuff is awesome. It will now be my go to primer for anything industrial I need coated.

This product is very poor quality. It is advertised that is OK to ...
We have applied this product to the outside side walk. It has no cover, it is exposed to the Sun and Rain mildly. This product is very poor quality. It is advertised that is OK to use on concrete floor. Don't. You will regret it. It is advertised as paint has gloss finish, it faded after about 3 weeks. It is advertised that resists scuffing, it is horrible. Anything gets to the surface, it leaves the mark, a scratch. After few month, paint dried out in form of flakes and started peeling. We have tried to work with it by doing touch ups, but after another few month, the whole thing is just need to be removed and redone with another product. Bottom line, we are not sure how this paint performs on inside or covered applications, but it will not last or work on the outside application such as concrete. We have tried to contact the manufacturer, we were attacked with total of three emails with detailed technical questions. After all that was provided along with pictures, they would not offer any kind of refund, other then after a strong push, they offered additional paint for the touch ups. On top of everything they blamed us that we did not use their primer, because picture that we sent the color of the primer looked more blue then grey. Bottom line, manufacturer, tried to find any possible reason by not even offering reasonable refund as they advertised on the can. Some pictures are attached. We are extremely dissatisfied with the product. Also, once it ships, half of the cans came in dented and totally dis-formed. We had to return a few orders immediately. Some orders came in with the cans so damaged that paint started to leak inside the boxes. Overall not happy, this product and service does not even deserves a one start. Good Luck.

For the money hard to beat..
At $19 a gallon its hard to beat as the quality seems as good as any other oil based primers I've tried. It sprays fine thinned with 20% Xylene. Only time will tell if it stays bonded to my old truck that I painted. It dries hard, sanded well after 24 hours cure time, and left the base firmly bonded. After reading other reviews it seems the quality control of this company is a bit lacking but when you get a quality can, its really good, especially for the price.kd
