My first heavy duty mortar and pestle arrived today and it is such a nice piece. I wanted a smaller bowl for smashing herbs and spices and this is perfect. It is quite lovely to look at and I am looking forward to using it for years to come. An added bonus is that it is not overly heavy, making it easier to use. I highly recommend!

The Mortar and Pestle are made of genuine stone, which is known as Black Granite or Gabro (or closely related igneous rock). It is not the classic pink granite, but it is a true quarried stone.I have used it every day since it arrived, and so far I have used it to grind Flax &Chia Seeds, and Ginger &Turmeric Roots, along with Garlic and Jalapeno Peppers.Unlike other products, this will not wear away and add stone dust to your food. Just follow the break-in instructions and enjoy.

This was purchased as a gift for my father to replace two others, a wooden and granite mortar and pestle set. His previous sets were fifteen+ years old but he specifically picked this one out and we got it for him. He was immediately delighted when it arrived. It's big enough to suit his needs, and he loves that the top and bottom have two different bowl sizes to work in. The handle is sturdy; he broke his last one when it flew out of his hand but he says he can get a good grip on this one and isn't worried about it. He likes the lid, which saved him from making a mess already, and he loved the mat to work on.The set is heavy and has a good grit on both the pestle and mortar. It's easy to clean and he is excited with how well it works.

This is the first mortar and pestle we have purchased. It is very heavy granite and two-sided. It makes grinding very easy and easy to clean.

Super great product it has a nice weighty quality stone feel to it, that really did what it was supposed to when it came to crushing to powder almost anything I put in it….I ended up giving it away as a gift but I loved it so much I intend on getting another one buy this one if you’re looking for one for sure.

Excellent for making baby food. I've been using it daily to make my one year old's food and regret not buying one sooner: it does a much better job and with easier cleanup then a blender/food processor.

The best! A smaller bowl on one side and a larger one on the other side. The pestle has a smaller end and a larger opposite end depending upon which side of mortar and amount you need to crush. Has a rubbery mat to stand on to keep it firm on the counter when using. It is totally heavyweight!

If you want to use this straight away, you'll be disappointed. There are several ingredients you may not have in your pantry, not expensive ones that you must use to season the mortar and pestle first.

I've been wanting a mortar and pestle for a long time.Found this bad boy and liked that it has a large and small bowl. The silicone lid works well to reduce splatter.It's nicely made, and heavy enough to do some serious damage if it's dropped.

This is wonderful and authentic! It’s very heavy and sturdy and feels like a carved stone. It’s better than I expected. Highly recommended!

Enormous and heavy. Unless you're crunching up a meal for a family feast, I don't see the need for having a mortar and pestle this large. Returned it.

This a very solid set. Comes with rubber base and cover to keep foods in while stirring. It does take some work to properly prepare and season, but well worth it. I used water at first to prepare the granite, then ground the rice and the sides turned out nice and smooth.

Very sturdy. Very good instructions how to clean and use the mortar. Came very well packed. And exactly what I expected.
