Over the holidays I used Sue Jenkins' Dreamweaver and Photoshop trainings from Class On Demand, and while I learned a lot from both DVDs, the most useful thing for me was to learn what I should NOT be doing!While the Photoshop training did this by helping correct a lot of bad habits I had picked up over the years, the comprehensive Dreamweaver training concisely detailed exactly what it takes to make solid & working web designs... and it's not for me. Web design, that is.I think this is great! Sue introduced me to the most up-to-date, current and user-accessible tool available for a graphically-oriented person to create and maintain work in an essentially code-based environment. It only took 6 hours to watch, but I spent many more hours re-watching and working through the examples provided on the tutorial disc. I learned the right language to use when discussing my desires with a real web designer. I learned what is and is not possible with current technology, and I was given the keys to look for what will become available as the new web standards begin to take effect.After experiencing this training, I am convinced that my perfected strengths are ultimately more useful than my marginally improved weaknesses. I'm headed back to the drawing board, literally. In my company, we manage 10 websites, each iwth its own set of biazrre complexities and until very recently - they've all remained a mystery to me - despite the fact that I design and manage them. I've always outsourced the coding and build-out, but as anyone whoe is reading this knows - websites change by necessity, are up for re-design constantly and need tweaking daily. Having been through Sue Jenkins' DVD on Photoshop 5 (Essential) - I braced myself to go out on the virtual limb and delve into my weak spot - web design.While still a bit left-brained for me, I'm a 100 times better off for schooling myself through this practical, witty and extremely sharp journey through Dreamweaver. She delivers the goods in such a comprehensive, enjoyable and most importantly - unintimidating manner that I can now imagine building (and I have to admit, am now truly inspired to) a website from top to bottom myslef - rather than typically rely on someone else to realize my vision. That said, when and where I do need to contract work, I now have a pretty good handle on both the jargon and the potential for where we can go with any one project, and can now converse to that effect with confidence. Being more or less a newbie to Dreamweaver (or at least a newbie to what's below the surface), I found that Sue is speaking to me and conveying the features and the processes of Dreamweaver in a completely understandable way. The speed in which I navigate Dreamweaver has gone up exponentially.The degree to which Sue is familiar with Dreamweaver is apparent. She easily delivers her messages and points in way that is easy to follow. Overall, an excellent tool and resource.
