Takes a lot of brewing
South Americans drink their maté strong. This teabag is a little small to achieve the same effect, but we found the flavour came through after a good ten minutes brewing in a mug and some mashing. The base ingredient is maté rather than black tea. The notes of lemon grass and ginger came across well by then. But when we first tasted it after five minutes brewing we found it insipid. A little sugar and chocolate alongside it pepped it up well too.We like this company's approach to packaging. 'Everything in this carton is 100% biodegradable'. The tea bags are totally plastic free and completely compostable. The 'plastic looking' cellophane inner is actually made from renewable wood pulp. I recommend opening the cellophane carefully - if you prise it apart without it tearing, you can fold it over again and use it to keep the teabags fresh for longer.

Nice but not spectacular
A nice enough tea but perhaps not quite as much zing, freshness and intensity to it as the ingredients might suggest. On the plus side everything here is biodegradable - cardboard packet, the clear packaging inside with the teabags, even the mesh teabags themselves are made of biodegradable material apparently.3½ stars rounded up to 4.

Very nice and refreshing!
These tea bags contain "Amazonian charged yerba mate" (rather than black tea, green tea etc.) along with lemongrass, ginger and a few other ingredients. The aim from the packaging is to give you an "energy hit minus the caffeine crash". Yerba mate contains caffeine though? Maybe less than black tea? Not sure on that one.Yerba Mate is apparently a plant species of the "holly genus Ilex" (if that means anything) and is native to South America. Apparently in Paraguay they drink it with cold water on hot days and vice versa. As to flavour, you definitely get a good depth of flavour, nice and warming too. You can tell the quality of the ingredients too that the taste is very clean and refreshing. The packaging says it got a Great Taste Award in 2013.The packaging is nice and the bags are biodegradable. If you like lemon and ginger infusions then you will like these. You get some caffeine with it and we feel that they are a bit higher quality than average for flavour as well.We think these are very nice and worth a try.[Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Sustainable tea brand great taste
Bird & Blend is a familiar tea brand to me as I know it’s hand blended and packed on the South Coast - so it’s nice to support the brand as they initially started packing tea in their bedroom and slowly expanded to open their Brighton store. This tea is their ‘Morning Kick’ and I definitely do agree. Both the lemongrass and ginger make it for me as the ginger is nice when you wake up with a sore throat and the lemongrass gives the tea a fresh taste and awakes the body for the day ahead. The box contains 15 tea bags, each in their own biodegradable tea parcels which is sustainable for our environment. Even the box itself is is cardboard and so way to dispose. I initially thought the tea bags were in a plastic bag but after reading the back it says the bag is made from ‘renewable wood pulp’ making it biodegradable.

A refreshing morning kick
I’ve tried this tea several times, especially when I needed a pick-up either in the morning or during the day when you start feeling that dreaded ‘crash’. Each teabag is jam-packed with high quality ingredients and after just 5 minutes of brewing, your tastebuds will start doing cartwheels after each and every sip. The flavour is powerful, refreshing and seriously lifts your spirits and energy levels in a pleasant and natural way. For sure one of the best tasting teas I have tried! As for the packaging, it is super eco-friendly! It’s fully recyclable and the teabags are biodegradable so you know that by drinking this tea brand you’re doing a good deed for the planet. All in all, and exceptional tea brand, and well worth the money!! 5 stars!

Warming and delicious tea
A really delicious blend of Yerba mate, lemongrass and ginger from an independent tea company based in Brighton. The tea is very warming and great as an alternative to breakfast tea in the morning or as a herbal tea in the evening. I find the ginger comes through more strongly than the lemon.I realised after reading more about Bird & Blend that I have actually bought from them before (they have undergone a name change and used to be Bluebird Tea). The tea is presented in individual biodegradable gauze bags which look much more appealing than teabags. There are 15 bags per box.Delicious and a nice caffeine free alternative.
