Both my 1.5 and 4 year old boys love this! I would recommend it for kids between 1.5 and 5. The size works perfectly for our small home -- it's about the size of an infant swaddle blanket/play mat. The boys do bicker a bit as they get into each other's way a bit on it, so parents with two or more car lovers might want to consider something a little bigger. The rug is nice and soft and unrolled easily, with no funny odors or off-gassing. The details are nice -- most of the buildings aren't to specifically labelled, so the kids can really use their imaginations. It comes with a police car, a fire truck, an ambulance, and a helicopter. However, the helicopter has no wheels, which disappointed me and the four year old. The vehicles are wood and well-made. Overall, we're really happy with this purchase.

I love Melissa and Doug. We have a ton of their toys. But I don’t see how they can call this a rescue rug when there is no police station? It has two fire stations, a hospital and 3 apartment buildings. However it comes with a police car... My son is looking for the police station. A bit disappointing but overall it’s a great little rug!

I never expected this to be a daily use item, but we have kept in on our coffee table to protect it from monster truck races and to reduce the noise from the mini wheels and toy-banging. It's held together very well and my toddler has seriously put its durability to the test. This has been a great purchase for us and we have certainly got our money's worth and then some!

This rug is perfect for my 1 year old! He loves rolling his books and cars all over the floor and this rug is exactly what he needed.

A little disappointed that it's berber loop rug style, as it tends to unravel if a cat is even in the same room as the rug. It is cute and the kid loves it, though. Just could do without worrying about loops coming off and being eaten.
