Tecnu First Aid Gel is a life saver!
I have a lower leg wound (pyroderma grangrenosum) that is very painful and very susceptible to MRSA and I had originally purchased Staphaseptic about 3 years ago and had briefly used it towards the end of my first bout of this painful malady. I had a re-ocurrence of this disease about 6 months ago and found a partial tube of the Staphaseptic and when I applied it to the wound, the results were amazing - the pain was gone (because it contains 2% lidocaine) and it guards against bacteria. However, I began to go from store to store both walk-in stores and online and could not find it anywhere and found out (to my horror) that the FDA had taken it off the market (probably because it WORKED and they couldn't stand that idea!). Until I realized it was now being sold by a different company under a different product name. So to say the least, I bought 5 tubes in one day and then when back a few days later and bought a few more and keep no less than 5-6 full tubes on hand at all times ! It is the only thing that I have found that deadens the pain, does not irritate the wound (which that is another thing I have to watch out for) and provides some non-antibiotic antiseptic protection against bacteria and potential MRSA. I'd give it 10 stars! Thank you, Tec Laboratories!

I keep this stocked in my medicine cabinet
This gel kills germs and helps heal infections where others have failed. I had a stubborn mystery wound on my shin and it was painful to the touch. I tried every ointment, cream, spray, powder and soap product I could find. Nothing seems to help much. Then, I tried the Tecnu first aid gel and it worked. I started feeling less pain right away because there is a pain relieving ingredient in it. The infection also went away have used it for other areas instead of a polysporin or bacitracin type ointment and it works well. It does have a medicated smell but that dissipates. It is worth trying.

It is a very good product that does what I need it to do and I would recommend it to others

The actual gel is effective and just what I wanted ...
The actual gel is effective and just what I wanted for an alternative to neosporin, however after just two uses the top got stuck on and now I'm unable to use the product.

It's good, doesn't quite replace staphaseptic
What would be my problem? It's a gel instead of an ointment. Something I didn't consider when I purchased it. My Fault. So if you are buying this because the price of staphaseptic is outrageous, and indeed it is, consider the gel vs. ointment fact. Gel warms up and sort of slides away, ointment is more resistant to this. If you are covering it immediately, the gel soaks into the bandaging, the ointment not so much. It's the stickiness of the ointment that holds the pain relieving property right against your skin and that is one of the things I appreciated so much about the very expensive staphaseptic. darn it.The ingredients of Tecnu ARE exactly the same as those in staphaseptic. It's not a bad product, it's just not a great one.

Must-have in the house - but beware
This formulation is hands-down the best ointment to have in the house to prevent infection. In it's previous StaphAseptic version, the ointment worked wonders, and I know many others have had the same experience. Anytime I've had a cut or scrape that looked a little raw, I'd use the gel and the spot would heal virtually overnight. It worked the same way with my kids, and no other antibiotic ointment ever had the same effect. It's amazing stuff. Even my long past-expiration-date StaphAseptic seems to have some power in it, but it was time to get a fresh supply.Update: my box arrived with a warning label: "This product contains Cocamide DEA, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer." What's frustrating, is this ingredient is an inactive one, so it's really not critical to the product. A shout out to Amazon.com too: on the product listing, this warning needs to be mentioned so that people can be educated consumers (and if it is listed and I missed it, shame on me). I was angry that I didn't know this information in advance of buying the product. When one is treating a cut or scrape -- with a direct avenue into the bloodstream -- why would I be eager to use a product that is a known carcinogen -- despite how much I loved it in the past?

Must-have first aid gel!
Tecnu is is a great first aid gel for cuts and scrapes. It is everything Staphaseptic was. I can't be happier that it was just a name change, and it wasn't discontinued. In addition to regular first aid, I have found that it's also useful for cystic acne. Acne cysts will leave swelling and redness on me for months. Using the gel two or three times a day when I first feel one of these nasty ones forming can keep it from ever even surfacing. If I don't manage to catch it in time, it's also great for speeding healing of cystic acne along. The only complaint I have about it is that the childproof cap seems to break easily. You can cut the outer cap off and the inner cap will still keep the gel fresh; just remember to store it away from little ones. The gel will dry with a sticky surface, so it won't be any good under makeup. Over makeup I have found that it not only works, but you can use it on top of makeup without anyone knowing it's there. Even with its flaws, I give Tecnu five stars for performing so well. For the impact it has on my occasional cystic acne alone, I would buy it. Having as a first aid gel as well is a great bonus.

Worth every cent!!
I read the 3 reviews above and they are right on! It is Staph-A-Septic in new packaging, in fact the tubes read the same manufacturer.I use this on everything!!! It is the greatest first aid cream/gel/ointment hands down - I originally bought Staph-A-Septic to treat a mild to medium case of MRSA on the skin, which looked/felt like spider bites. In conjunction with Hibiclens it really does the job that antibiotics could not. Even in the FDA study it says it is more effective than other compared creams/gels.In our house we keep this stuff on hand and ready, we are very glad to see it is being sold again!!
