Great historical mystery
I’m a big fan of this series. This latest installment of the Lady Ariana series did not disappoint. This book was full of political intrigue and it was hard to know who to trust and believe. And you were pulled along with Ariana and her husband Sandro as they were bombarded with information that continually conflicted. The mystery was outstanding!

This is it.....I'm over Lady Arianna
An overly complex spy mystery which got me completely fed up with Lady Arianna. I'm not fond of spy mysteries anyway, and this one didn't change my mind. The snow mountain was kind of fun, an interesting historical side note. But Arianna's impulsive attitude of "I know I'm not supposed to do this, but I just HAVE to go do it NOW - ALONE!" made me want to whack her a good one myself. She gets knocked out by villains not just once but twice, both times because she stupidly and deliberately rushes into danger. The second time it's even a trap - she and her companions KNOW it's a trap - and she races off anyway!Saybrook doesn't get much to do except run off to secret meetings, then come back and sigh over his wife's thick skull, while he drinks brandy and she knocks back the hot chocolate. There's a lot of late night drinking brandy & chocolate scenes filling up this book. Both Arianna and her friend Sophia have incredible guns and are excellent shots, neither of which helps in any of the several dangerous situations they're in, until a rat terrier assists by biting the villain's calf. Substitute whacking the guy on the head with a fireplace poker and you would get the same result.I really enjoyed the first few books. Saybrook and Arianna had great chemistry. Sad to say, in this story there was nothing. No tension, no partnership, no real dialogue between the two. Very disappointing!

Avid Reader
As always I 💘 this author's Regency mysteries. Lord and Lady Saybrook once again help Grantham solve a tangle of complicated webs, where he is the center of the intrigue. Although they started as enemies in Book One, they are now friends, which causes the minister to make numerous mistakes until he admits the truth and accepts their help. Lady Arianna finds out that she has a half brother, but she doesn't tell if the brother is younger or older. Hopefully, the author will clarify that oversight in the next novel. One wonders if he will move in with the Saybrooks. He is a talented engineer and had also gained the attention and respect of Lord Grantham. Grantham and Sophia have a challenging relationship, but it looks the author has decided to make him more human. Time will tell in the next novel. I look forward to reading it.

History, Romance and Intrigue - What’s Not To Love?
Always a joy to read, this is another story, so riveting I glanced at the clock to find it was 3:00 AM! How can a book be the “best” when each one is truly outstanding? However, this is possibly the best yet! The only disappointment is that such quality takes time, so it will be a while before the next book is available. So melodramatic, but I wait with baited breath.

superhero’s
while i realize the style of book it is, i also get tired of characters being superhero’s. yes, they work hard for it. and yet, they also stumble to solution in an elaborate way. except for the traps they walk into. still a delightful read.

Great story, disappointing writing
I have read every book in this series, and am usually very happy with the writing and storyline. This latest installment had a solid story (unfortunately it's only 80% of the download), with several twists, great characters and hijinks. However, there are a lot of overly repetitive phrases/vocabulary (if I read "ye gods" one more time...), and some bad editing, which takes away from enjoying the plot. I wish Ms. Penrose would have had someone read through it one more time before publishing as the plot deserves better.

A very nice historical mystery series!
Love this series and all the characters. What a fun ride this read was both in England and France! This author never disappoints on telling a good tale. Thank you!

Another brilliant story
I never really expected there to be another Lady Arianna story but I’m really glad there is. Absolutely brilliant and intriguing. I had no ides what would happen, except, I confess, the ending which I suspected early on in the story. I hope very much there will be more in this super series.

Better editing, please
I like this chocolate saga and I find it easy to relate to the heroes, but I would suggest the author to find a better editor. Some words missing here and there are not a big problem, but the level of French was most irritating (the few idioms used were mostly incorrect or not appropriate to context - google translate is not enough), as was the continuous reference to words like "innuendo", "intrigue" etc., suggesting the extent of danger and difficulty of life as a spy. I thought it distracted from the narrative when used to such extent; and, besides, the reader certainly is aware of said dangers unless this is the first mystery novel he or she reads.

Love this series
Andrea Penrose writes so well I have trouble putting her books down. I love the way she weaves small snippets of historical facts into her stories.
