Good product, Costly
I like the fact that it can make tamping pressure a constant. The overall feel of tamper is good. However, it’s not cheap, but if you’re pretty serious about your morning cappuccino, this takes the guesswork of “30 lbs of pressure” out of it. In fact, I got one for the baristas at the coffee shop I own to see if they liked it vs doing it on their own. They seem to like it as well. Again, one less thing to “estimate.”

Solidly build. Dead accurate.
Testing this on a scale, it has none of the problems of the cheaper calibrated tampers. Pressure smoothly goes up to 30 pounds and the handle clicks into place without fuss. No sloppiness. The travel of the handle is just right. Fits my Rocket 58mm portafilter perfectly. Precision construction. Worth the rather hefty price.

Satisfied
It's been in use daily for several years. Still works like new. Feels good in the hand. Its constant force eliminates one variable from the equation (time, temperature, pressure, etc.) of making espresso.

Highly effective at controlling a critical variable when pulling shots!
I'm impressed with the quality of this tamper and there is no doubt that it is very effective at controlling the variable oftamp pressure when preparing shots. I was definitely tamping too light prior to using this tool. For me, a good comparison would be the use of a torque wrench for securing a fastener in a critical use situation. Basically, a nobrainer. If you are using quality coffee in a good machine, all you have to do is dial in the grind size to reach a goal of a 2oz shot in 25 seconds. I use 18g of Lavazza Super Crema in my double shot portafilter. Be sure to level the coffee andapply the 30# tamp. No more guessing! My results are absolutely fantastic! (Profitec Pro 500 PID)I'm keeping my old tamper as a back-up only since I now have absolute confidence this tools works effectively.Note: I would rate this 4.5 stars...docking .5 for the price tag. That said, who knows what it's worth? I already love it!

Wrong size was sent
I ordered the 53mm but they accidentally sent a bigger one to me so I had to return this. Seems to be well made, though. Really not sure at this point if this is a necessary tool and it sure is expensive. I've come to learn that being consistent with the tamping is a LOT more important that trying to get to exactly 30 pounds so I am just using a regular non-fancy tamper and have nothing but awesome results. This is a heavy tamper, certainly well made. If you had disposable income and want to make sure you are at 30 pounds, go for it. Otherwise just use a regular tamper and be consistent.

Great for the heavy-handed newbie or those seeking consistency
Let me start by saying that if you've been making your own espresso for years and pull a good shot every time, then this tamper is not for you. However, if you're like me and relatively new to home espresso, then this tamper is your best friend. I love espresso and jumped in blindly when I "impulse" bought an expensive machine and grinder, thinking after a few months of practice, I would be able to make a great latte. Well that wasn't quite the case so I took a class on making espresso (which I recommend to everyone) and they emphasized the importance to dialing in the grinder and packing the grinds evenly. However, my uncalibrated arm just wasn't up to the task of packing the grounds at 30lbs each time, making dialing in the grinder very difficult as well. This tamper takes the packing part out of the equation and makes it much easier to evaluate whether your grounds are ground too fine or coarse, saving time and headache and making the whole experience of trying new beans or playing with the other variables (like temperature, pressure, pre-infusion time, etc) that much more pleasurable.

Click stopped after 3 days
One reason I bought this for about $100 is because of the click. My wife is not accustomed to making espresso, and I thought that pulling the extra money for that training click was worth the money. It is not. After just 3 days of use the click is already gone. The tamper was never abused during that time, it did not fall to the floor, not even on the counter, it was not put under water or any other liquid, only gently wiped with a soft cloth. But the main feature justifying the high price is not working any more, so we are left with a tool worth no more than $30-$40. It is still working as a tamper, but I recommend that potential customers look at cheaper options instead of wasting extra money on this item.

Quite expensive and didn't click
I experimented with the espro despite reservations about the price. For the money, I felt it should feel like something I'd use in a lab. When it arrived, I tested it out and there was no audible click when I reached 30 pounds, rather, the handle just met the metal tamp. It wasn't quite the experience I was looking for to round out my morning espresso routine.Good produce in concept, at best "meh" follow through.RETURNED

Amazing Product, Works with 54mm Breville Portifilters
I own a Bambino Plus by Breville, I use this tamp in conjunction with the Motta 53mm distributor tool and it brewed an amazing, consistent tasting shot. The tamper itself is weighted nicely, a huge upgrade from the light weight Breville tamper. The weighted pressure of 30 pounds doesn't really matter much, but it's the fact that it allows me to tamp consistently with the same pressure to make it easier for me to control the variables. The cost is expensive, but is easily justified when you have a high quality home espresso machine.

Reduce espresso tamping errors
I have a high end Prosumer espresso coffee machine and grinder. We get more consistent results but sometimes when different people us the machine, they get a bad coffee. It might get no crema or to much coffee. Using this tamper there is a little step as it gives way at 30 lbs so you know to stop tamping. Now there is one less variable when making coffee. It was costly but I feel it was worth the money. Designed in Canada and made in Taiwan the quality is great.

Vraiment super!
J'adore ce tampon plat et je regrette de ne pas l'avoir acheté avant. Il est vraiment bien fait et je vois une différence sur la qualité de l'espresso.
