Joyce Chen VS Paderno World Cuisine
I had been wanting a spiralicer for a couple of years now, i finally got one. I chose the Paderno World Cuisine spiralicer. I chose it specifically because the reviews were better than for the Joyce Chen model. Thanks a lot guys. When i first got it (Paderno) out of the box, i wanted to send it back...sorry Paderno. I knew this piece of kitchen equipment would just annoy me with its cheapness and bulkiness. 30 bucks is a lot to pay for something that straight out of the box is a disappointment. I tried it anyway, i had been waiting for zucchini noodles for a few years now people. the noodles came out pretty, but huge, more like fettuccine noodles. too thick to pretend they were anything but a vegetable.I loved the results when using the Joyce Chen. It gives a (zucchini) nice THIN "noodle", just like angel hair pasta. I also tried (on accident) the traditional spiral slices. That looks pretty but who cares, i want low calorie pasta. The Joyce Chen is very well made! i cant believe how many people are saying it isnt! They must not be comparing it to the Paderno. The crank doesnt bow in, it screws with metal screws, the plates are solid, what more do you want? i paid about 17 dollars, i have read about some people paying more like 30. Maybe i would less enamored with this if i had paid that much. Although, if i had paid that much, i would still prefer the Joyce Chen over the Paderno.I was VERY disappointed with the way the Paderno is made. It works, but seems like its itching to break. Its weakly put together, and the crank bows in every turn you make. I am hard on things but i was EASY on this due to its obvious frailness. It reminded me of this toy stroller i got for my birthday, i was so excited! As i was pushing it up and down the hallway proudly, pieces were falling off of it. My parents thought it was funny. i thought it was too until i realized i was not going to get a better replacement.yay for being an adult! i got a better spiral slicer for myself! the Joyce Chen.

Valuable Kitchen Appliance!
Wanting to get away from grains including pasta and rice but still enjoy Italian sauces and Indian curries, I wanted to try raw zucchini cut in angel hair pasta shape to replace rice and pasta. I researched these and ordered one but when it came, it did not have stainless steel blade although the description said it did but instead it was plastic. I did not even try it but shipped it right back. Amazon.com made it very easy to return for which I am grateful because I hate to return things. Then I looked again at all the choices on amazon.com, reading each description carefully and reading the reviews. This one, the Joyce Chen, had mostly favorable but some unfavorable reviews like rusting of the metal but I decided to try it anyway. It does have stainless steel blades and they click into place firmly so it cannot shift while you are cutting. It is important that you look at videos of how to cut your veggies and how to turn the handle and it is easy when you follow those guidelines. I love it. I think people got rusting or residue on the center shaft and blades because they did not clean it properly. It actually comes all apart and you can clean and dry it and put a little oil on the metal parts. The zucchini pasta is really good and my husband and I actually prefer it to real pasta and rice. I have put an Italian meat sauce on top and shrimp curry too--delicious. It could work for whatever -you want --like chili on top -and gives you a nice raw veggie to boot. I have a recipe for marinated cucumber that I want to try and use the spiral blade for because the seedless cuke needs to be cut very thinly and this should do it perfectly. See Kayelily's Pinterest board for Great Healthy Recipes. I may try doing an apple to see how that works! It is a great way to do carrots for recipes calling for grated carrots.

Makes really cool veggies for garnish and salads
I will get to the point:The Good: It makes really nice vegetable "spaghetti" that looks great for garnishing salads and foods in general. The flat spirals also look quite nice, and it's pretty easy to use.The Bad: The blade inside is SUPER sharp. I've cut myself (badly) like three times while trying to clean it. The little teeth on the small blade hold on to food, so it gets stuck on there. It's difficult to clean completely - veggie matter gets stuck on the base of the holding disc's teeth, on the blade-teeth of the little stick thing, and vegetables like beets and carrots stain the white plastic purple and orange. Did i mention you can cut yourself quite badly on the main blade? I sometimes put it in the dishwasher, and while that cleans it pretty well, it does not clean it 100%. However, because it's vegetable matter (and not protein) I don't worry about the microscopic dirt left behind.NOTE: For best results when using carrots, make sure that you are using big, fat carrots, which may be hard to find. Otherwise it's quite annoying and time-consuming to use regular sized carrots.I still recommend this, because the end result is quite nice, it's just not the most human-friendly contraption I own.

Very fine zoodles..
It does get the job done, I will give you that. I found it slid on the counter too easily & had to put a rubber mat underneath to stop it from happening since it flew off the counter on my first try. The strips blade got knocked out and I had to VERY carefully get it back in. It takes a little bit of pressure to get the plunger teeth into the vegetable and then swirling isn't hard to do at all. I had to readjust the veg and reinsert the teeth several times though, which I found annoying. At the end of my turnip, I was left with angel hair consistency turnip zoodles and a 1 inch thick piece that the plunger teeth and scored into a "crop circle". That piece would not move to be spiralized no matter how I tried it. Kind of disappointing that so much of it wasn't able to be sliced. The main reason I chose this item was because it seemed to offer more finger protection. That is pretty important to me having already destroyed two fingertips on a mandolin slicer almost 7 months ago and I am still paying the price.

This is a great little kitchen gadget
This is a great little kitchen gadget! Very well built and easy to use and to clean. Handily makes fine "spaghetti" or ribbon spirals with a variety of vegetables. Almost no waste - less than a half-inch piece left uncut, Apart from selecting the size of the spirals (fine or ribbon) there are no other settings. This is just fine for me, but others might want more control over thickness of the slices.

Easy!
Works quick and easy. Only problem is that the switch for noodles or spirals can flick over easy on you and if you don't double heck you might end up with a cut you don't like!
