Travelsox mens Patented Graduated Compression Travel & Dress

The One To Buy
My wife and I were heading to Africa for our first safari. As a 70 year old I wanted compression stockings for the 16 hour flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg to reduce the risk of pulmonary embolism. I bought a pair of these Travelsox and a pair of the Vitalsox (which cost about twice as much). The socks are very similar. The packages state that both brands are made under the same patents in the same Italian factory. The material feels the same and the sizing is the same. The big difference for me was that the toes of the Vitalsox contained more elastic and squeezed my toes together which I found uncomfortable for wearing all day. The Travelsox give my toes more freedom and feel better when worn for more than 8 hours. I now have 3 pairs of the Travelsox and enjoy wearing them. I wore them everyday in Africa and my feet and legs felt good although a little warm since daytime temperature got up to 105 F. So for comfort and lower cost I would recommend the Tavelsox.

Sizing chart on Amazon wrong
I just received these and, while the socks seem great, the sizing chart on the package is different than in the Amazon image. The package states S (US Mens 3-6, US Women 4-7), M (US Mens 6.5-9.5, US Women 7.5-11) and L (US Mens 10-14, no sizing listed for US Women.) I hope this helps someone else order the right size as I think I should have ordered an M rather than an S. I know they're supposed to be tight, but these are really small!

Thick-sole, expensive socks with all-synthetic material that pills easily
I recently bought two pairs of these socks for international flights. Manufactured in Italy, they are made of 10% polyamide (Nylon), 15% elastane (Spandex or Lycra), and 75% polypropylene infused with silver nanoparticles. Since the 1990s the latter tiny particles, which range from 1 to 100 nm in size, are added to some clothes, towels, bed sheets and even toothpaste, since they release silver [an]ions that have antibacterial and therefore anti-odor properties. The graduated compression up to a maximum of less than 15 mm Hg is achieved with a basic thread throughout the sock combined with one or two elastic threads in selected sections of the sock. The sole has a thick terry weave that provides cushioning. The socks come prewashed and treated with a "Chemical Free softener" of undisclosed components.I am 6-ft tall, and have feet 10" long (shoe size 9-9.5 US males), 11" ankles (circumference just above the malleoli), 16.75" calves (max circumference), and 17" from the bottom of the heel to the back fold of the knee. The sizing table assigns me the M-size, but from prior experience I chose the L-size. It was a good choice: the socks fit me generally well, with appropriate compression, and the cuff reaches just below knee without the need of stretching the sock up. They were not too difficult to put on using the method of first turning the upper part halfway inside out.ISSUES & CONCERNSPRODUCT VARIABILITY. I tested two pairs, fresh out of the box, in separate days from morning till bedtime. The pair that came inside a plastic bag with a cardboard insert (TSS-6000), was tighter than the pair that came packed in a more informative printed box (TSS-6000-001). This caused some sore-to-the-touch skin wrinkles on the front of the ankle after some 5-6 hours of use.PILLING. At least one of the pairs developed pilling and thread extrusion on the inside of the bottom edge cuff after its FIRST DAY day of use (!) without having been handled in a rough or careless mode. This is shown in my figure, and portends poor cuff durability.SOLE WEAVE. The thick weave of the sole makes it extremely uncomfortable to wear normally good fitting dress shoes. Others have complained of this too. Further, if you have dogs at home but do not vacuum the floors everyday, you will find that this weave is superb in collecting dog hairs. (It is a nuisance to pick them out by hand, but there is the risk of hair splinters in the skin of the foot, which although uncommon they can be painful, especially if infected.)NANOSILVER. The manufacturer claims this fabric does not pollute the environment. But multiple studies report that nanosilver does leach out of textiles when laundered, and it indeed has potential environmental risks. Being toxic to the microbes used in wastewater treatment plants, nanosilver may decrease the treatment efficiency. Further, with most of it (90%+) incorporated in the biosolids left over at the end of the sewage treatment, which are often used as agricultural fertilizers, it might enter the food chain.SCENT. A prior version of the Product Information section (which still appears when searching for "softener" in the Customer Q&A) states the softener used on the prewash has "a nice fresh scent." Further, at least one query in the Q&A indicates "a laundry smell." Contingent on the composition of the unidentified softener, this might be an issue for scent-sensitive people until washing the socks removes the scent.RATINGThe value for money is not favorable (either at the current price or at the lower price the socks had during the 12-day pre-holydays period), the material has issues, and a better quality control is needed to avoid variability. At the time of this writing, a website that evaluates the reliability of reviews, gives a grade F to the current ones due to "insufficient reliable reviews" and alleges a "high deception."

A Must-have for Long-haul Flights!!!
I bought these socks for the sole purpose of having something to wear during long-haul flights to prevent swelling. I travel long distances fairly regularly, and every time I do, I end up with terrible swelling in my feet, ankles, and calves. I should add that I am the kind of person that does everything right on those long flights--I get up and move around often, I do stretches and exercises, I drink lots of water, I take anti-inflammation medicine--but nothing seems to work. I would say on a swelling scale of 1 to 10 (1 being "normal" and 10 being "needs medical attention"), my swelling would be at an 8/9. It would be so bad that it would take days for the swelling to go down. So, for an upcoming trip to Adelaide, Australia from Minneapolis, I decided to purchase these compression socks to see if they made any difference. Boy, did they ever! The total travel time I had from start to finish for this trip was about 30 hours one-way (for the flights, including transit and layovers). I still had some swelling, but I would only rate it as a 3 on the scale. What a huge improvement! Additionally, the swelling that I had was completely gone the next day, which made it easy to get back into my active routine. I was really happy with my purchase and wish I had gotten these sooner! I will never travel long distances without them again! I highly recommend these socks!Pros:* Comfortable and light* Thin enough to easily fit in most shoes* Looks like normal socks* Reduces swellingCon (this is barely a con, but it is worth mentioning):* Size runs very big. I am a 5'11" woman with size 11 shoes and I purchased a medium. They were still a bit too big. I actually accidentally put them in the dryer after their initial washing (which it says not to do) and found that the bit of shrinkage helped them to work better and feel more comfortable.

Not your father's support hose...
My husband travels via commercial airline and flies helicopters for his job. He also stands for long periods while teaching. He is also at risk for blood clots. Yikes. I thought it would be a battle to even coax him to wear these on a commercial flight, but now he prefers these socks to wear all the time. He had noticed his legs were less tired and swollen after wearing these socks. I purchased enough to get him through his work week away from home, and some different colors. For the price, I consider it as an investment in his health and comfort.

The fit well and I wore them throughout a flight without discomfort.
The fit well and I wore them throughout a flight without discomfort. As for whether they are effective, I am not qualified to say - but flight socks are recommended to prevent or lessen the chance of deep vein thrombosis, so I used them.

best compression socks you can buy
i just had open-heart surgery, they removed two veins from my leg. When i was released from the hospital and on day two of being home, my left foot swelled up so badly, my foot looked like a tree trunk. After wearing these overnight, my foot was back to its normal shape. I also found that when i wake up in the morning my feet and legs are not asleep like the cases ive had when not wearing these socks to bed. They have really helped me out, and i know now that this are the socks i need to wear, i am almost 82 years old. I believe anyone no matter what age would benefit from these socks, but if you're up there in an age like myself, you should consider getting these as your new socks to wear every day. On a side note, they are not like other compression socks that bother you after wearing them for 12 hours, the lower compression number of 20, and the way that these socks are made provide all-day wear.

Buen producto
El ajuste es acorde a la tabla de tallas. la presión es firme y homogenea. Las utilizo todo el día sin molestias. Recomiendo mucho cuidado al lavarlas para no generar un desgaste prematuro

Great socks for travel or standing at work!
Great travel socks. Heavier and thicker than the other brand I've used but that makes them warmer for the cool floor air on a plane, and easier to handle as you pull them over your legs. These socks are also great when you are standing for long periods of time on the job.

A nice fabric, comfortable enough to wear for extended periods ...
Ordered medium and since they are designed for travel, the fit is more relaxed than the usual sports or medical compression sox. A nice fabric, comfortable enough to wear for extended periods and a reasonable price. Am happy with the purchase.

Like them ...
My husband likes these socks. He felt comfortable at the end of a 12h work day, sitting at the office most of the time. Wears size 12 on shoes and no special requirements. Everything fine, thank you.

Great for your Feet....!!!
They were great and they work....as long as you put it on just before your flight. If you put them on too early they do not work as well.
