Famous actress, and longstanding villager, Dame Penelope Keith is heading out on another summer adventure. Armed with her beloved 'Batsford Guides' , she s uncovering more of our most charming rural villages and their unique characters and stories. Alongside beautiful scenery, Penelope explores the industry, art and literature that characterise each region, and seeks out the village traditions that continue to this day. Join Penelope as she learns what it means to be a villager today, and finds out just why we love villages so much. Episode 1 - The Cotswolds Penelope visits the honey-coloured perfection of Bibury and attends a classic village fete in Ebrington. She takes in the arts and crafts home of William Morris, and meets the writer Jilly Cooper. Episode 2 - Argyll and Bute Amidst lochs and mountains, Penelope finds her most extreme village locations yet. From Vikings in Tarbert, to Queen Victoria s holidays, this complex coastline is her chance to indulge a love of ferries. Episode 3 - North Yorkshire Penelope travels through dales and flies over moors to the coast, in search of the famous Yorkshire spirit. On the way she finds sword dancing in Goathland, and the birthplace of aviation in Brompton-by-Sawdon. Episode 4 - Pembrokeshire Starting in refined Manorbier in the south, Penelope crosses the stunning Welsh peninsula. She explores the wild Preseli Hills, visits the country s best food market in St Dogmaels and finds Abereiddy home of international cliff diving.

Delightful series
My husband is from England and we visit his family there many times. This series is a wonderful reminder of all the small villages we love. Beautiful landscapes, and Penelope Keith does a fine job of narrating and interviewing the villagers. Wish there were more series of Hidden Villages!

Ourstanding, BUT
Love the series. HOWEVER, the background music, lovely as it is, is entirely too loud and drowns out a lot of her commentary,

The landscapes are simply beautiful and it is interesting learning about the history of each one. I appreciate how each village has continue to exist and prosper by reinventing itself to adapt to the changing times.

It won’t work on a DVD player in the US although it was one of the ones that didn’t have a warning! I would like to return it but not sure how for this item!
