Definitely made the right choice
This pair of speaker stands was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to previous reviewers for helping me make my decision; that is what I LOVE about Amazon. The base is nice and sturdy, as is the vertical column that runs between the base and the speaker platform.Upon opening the box, I was concerned that the speaker platform might be too small for my speakers, which are 9"x9-1/2" (the speaker platform measured 7-1/2"x7-1/2"). This turned out not to be a problem because of the sturdiness of not only the base, but, once assembled, the entire stand.Assembly tip: Make sure you attach the speaker platform to the vertical column with the holes in the corners of the platform facing up. Took me a couple extra minutes to assemble because I had to go back and change that, but then I'm not exactly known for my handiness. All you need is a phillips screw driver for assembly. These stands give you the option of using spikes (for thicker carpet) or four "feet" (can't think of the proper word to use) for the bottom of the base. I just used the four feet because I figured the weight of my speakers would keep them from moving. You also have the option of using small spikes or pads on the speaker platform. I chose to use the spikes. The only question/problem I had was determining how to use the two black vertical strips included. I'm guessing they must be some type of cover/backing for the back of the vertical column, but the directions (it's the final step, "4: Cable Placement") are kind of vague (it's probably something easy; again, assembling things isn't my specialty). For now I'm not even using them, and I see no reason to.I seem to recall some reviewers saying the holes for the speaker wire may be too small (I think it was for these stands, anyway). I can't comment on that since I just let the wire run down the back and tucked them into the grove in the back of the vertical column. You can only see them once they get beyond the base.

Great speaker stands
We were in the process of turning our basement "romper room" full of toys into a proper rec room, including new TV and sound system. I needed some functional speaker stands for the front satellites. Although we have a nice sound system, I don't think it quite qualifies as audiophile, so I was not seeking any obscure, exotic features on that front. Also, it's a nice room now, but we don't need speaker stands that are made of fine materials or otherwise qualify as "high art". Just looking for some solid, presentable speaker stands. So, after assembly and set-up, I think these Sanus NF18B stands meet my requirements perfectly. As usual, the shipping container had some bumps in it, but the contents were intact. Assembly was quick and very straightforward. After reading other reviews, where pieces got cracked, I was careful not to over-tighten the screws, and encountered no problems. You get a choice of rubber feet for floors or pins for carpet on the base, and similar options for the top of the shelf. These stands come with some slots down the back of the pedestal, where you bend and insert some flat plastic slats, to create a rear-facing curved hollow shaft for routing your wires. Just make sure to look for them, because it could be easy to toss the plastic slats with the packaging. After assembly, the stands are reasonably solid. I wouldn't stand on them or anything, but they are more than adequate for their intended purpose, which is to hold up stationary speakers. So in summary, although I was a little concerned after reading some negative reviews, I am perfectly satisfied with these speaker stands, both for appearance and function. Also, I observed reasonable care in assembly, and didn't have any problems with that. I recommend these guys for anyone looking for solid, functional, presentable speaker stands.

... from the internet photo but these are a very good deal for the money
It is hard to tell the quality of an item from the internet photo but these are a very good deal for the money. The base, post, and piece the speaker sits on are all very solid. This appears to me to be nicely laminated particle board. Assembly is well thought out and only requires a screwdriver. Once assembled there are no visible screws. The base has a choice of rubber feet or carpet spikes. The piece the speaker sits on has a choice of isolation spikes or small rubber pieces that have an adhesive back to stick to the stand. This all comes in the bos. Also, there is a channel up the back of the stand if the wires come up from the floor that can feed the wiring concealed to the speaker. This is not clear from the online information. The stands are nicer than they appear in the ads. I would recommend these for above average quality speaker stands that are a good value for the money.

Best stand for the price.
Great buy for the price, looks great very sturdy holds my klipsch R61-II and there on the large side for book shelf speakers would have given a 5star but the hole cut for the speaker wire to go thru to connect to the speakers isnt large enough depending on the gauge u use, but u cant really notice the wire if you have to bypass the hole and run it straight up the backside of the stand.

Surprisingly nice for the price
I read several reviews of what appeared to be the shorter version of this stand and they seemed to conclude that it sacrificed quality for price. In contrast, these 18" stands are surprisingly well-made for the modest price. No, the uprights are not hollow to allow you to load them with vibration-deadening sand (or lead shot!), like the other pricier stands I own, but they appear to be solid wood, as are the bases and top pieces. Everything is nicely finished in matte black, with smooth, rounded edges. A nice touch: the stands come with vibration-damping spikes for both the base and the top (for use on carpeted floors), plus plastic pads (for wood floors). All around, a well-executed product!

Awesome
Shipped super fast, arrived before estimated arrival date. Beautiful looking. Instruction for assembly were clear. All the pre-drilled holes lined up perfectly, and came with all the hardware for different setups on wood or carpeted floors. The hole for the speaker wire could be bigger, over all I am very happy.
