A worthy successor
I have used the HJ-112 model for years. I liked its accuracy and ease of use, was lukewarm toward the 6-month battery life, and hated the dorky, clunky look of wearing it on my hip. When I lost the last one, I purchased this updated model, and have been using it for about a week. So far, I am very happy with it, and indeed consider it a slight improvement.First off, the accuracy seems to be about the same. After years of daily walks, I have a good sense of how many steps should show up on the pedometer. On level terrain, for example, I expect about 100-110 steps per minute. This pedometer gives readings that are in line with that. At the end of a day of typical activity, the step count does not seem grossly inaccurate. In short, it has earned my trust as being more or less as accurate as its predecessor. Now I'll veer to a negative - the display shuts off after a few minutes, presumably to conserve the battery. Steps keep logging, so it's not like the device shuts down. You have to press a button on the front, which instantly activates the display. It's obviously a tradeoff, and I can accept it if it drastically improves battery life.On to the best part - the improvements. Though less distinctive than the shield-like shape of the HJ-112, the new model is slightly thinner and less obtrusive. It lives in a little rubber case that clips anywhere you wish. Happily, this model comes with a strap that you can thread through your belt hoop to secure it. The great thing about the more symmetrical shape of the new model is that you can turn it upside down so that it reads the "right" way when you tilt it up to look at it. With the HJ-112, I had to unclip it and turn it around to look at it. This time savings offsets the annoyance of having to hit a button to look at the display. In fact, I'm training myself to hit the button as I tilt it toward me.In summary: just as accurate, slightly less clunky and dorky, a little easier to use.Update 12/6/15 - The battery conked out today so I replaced it - got more than a year's use out of the first battery. The low battery signal began flashing a couple of weeks ago so I had plenty of time to get a new one.

This Is the Pedometer I Was Looking For
Over the years I've used a variety of pedometers in an attempt to keep track of how many steps I walk during a day. Most of the other pedometers I have owned before the OMRON ALVITA ULTIMATE PEDOMETER were pedometers that you had to clip to your waist. I really don't like clipping anything to my waist, no matter how small or stylish it is. I have only owned one previous pocket pedometer before, but it was not a very accurate instrument. However, I really wanted to try a pocket pedometer again and that is why I purchased the OMRON ALVITA ULTIMATE PEDOMETER. After using this device for several months, I really like it. Once you figure out your pace and change it in the device, the pedometer keeps an accurate count of your steps. It also gives you an idea of how many calories you burn. I take this pedometer with me everywhere and I enjoy it so much that when I thought I had lost it, I ordered a new one. Although this pedometer keeps an accurate count of steps, it isn't as high-tech as a FitBit and the calorie count isn't always accurate. However, if you're looking for something with a more technological bent, you're better getting off a FitBit anyway. If you're just looking for a pedometer that you can keep in your pocket and that keeps an accurate step count, then the OMRON ALVITA ULTIMATE PEDOMETER is probably what you want.

Pedometer redesign vs old design vs Vivofit
Accurate, easy to read, not too bulky, and east to set up. But I like the older model better. To see the display you have to push one of the little buttons whereas on the older one the main display was always on view...much easier to check the overall number of steps and time. Especially time since I don't wear a watch anymore. Most important, the old one's case was more stable. This new pedometer has fallen out of the silicone case several times. Luckily I wear it in my pocket so the pedometer has fallen in my pocket. I have used the older pedometer version for 10 or so years...loved it till I forgot it was in my pocket and it went around in the washing machine. After that I got a Garmin Vivofit. Liked it because the display is on the wrist but it was bulky and didn't count steps if I was walking around pushing a grocery cart and did count steps if I was sitting still and waving my arm around. I think the pedometer on a core central body part gives a more accurate step count. Just wish they would redesign the silicone case. I fear I will lose this one in the near future! Still like the pedometer better than a Vivofit, Fit Bit, etc. I don't care if it doesn't link into My Fitness Pal, etc. After about a week of that and sleep tracking the novelty wears off. I can buy 5 of these pedometers for one of those trackers and get better accuracy!

Good pedometer
Model HJ-325 first bought this in 2016. On my second one, bought in 2018, because I forgot to take the older one out of my pocket and washed my pants! Dry rice didn’t revive it! Still using the second one now in 2024, but is beginning to show its age. Not tracking steps reliable any more. Don’t know why, it’s only just over 6 years old and worn or carried over 90% of that time! Bottom line is this is a great product that is reliable for over 5 years as long as you don’t wash it. I’m am ordering the replacement today, model HJ-325EW. I definitely recommend this product!
