A great solution for a lazy father
After many complaints from my teenaged son, I finally decided it was time to give him a wired network connection. The poor wifi reception in his upstairs bedroom was affecting his WoW gameplay! If that had been the only reason, I probably would have continued to procrastinate, but I had decided that wifi reception was also affecting my Xbox 360 performance. It was time to do something!I thought about switching to an 802.11n router, but wasn't too thrilled about having to buy new network adapters for my laptops and other devices (assuming I could find one for the Xbox). The next idea was running ethernet cable through the house. I did some research, and it looked like I could wire up the desired locations for about $150 in cable and tools. The downside was the amount of time it was going to take to run cable through the crawl space, and up through the walls. Plus, if I changed the location of the Xbox, I would have to do it again.I had looked at powerline networking in the past, but the price seemed high, and user reviews were spotty. Before I ordered my cable, I decided to take one more look at powerline adapters here on Amazon. That's when I came across the Panasonic BL-PA100. The price was certainly right - I could get 4 adapters for about $100. I would have the flexibility to move them around, and the user reviews were generally positive. I wasn't worried about some reviewers' concerns about high-def performance - as long as they could match wifi performance I thought my gaming needs would be satisfied. I only needed 3 adapters, but I figured I would probably end up using a 4th if I had it. I ordered 2 kits of 2, and waited for delivery. My order was shipped promptly, and arrived within a week. I was a little surprised by how small the box was, thinking that they must have only sent me one kit, instead of two. Nope - these things are small. I opened the first box, glanced over the instructions, and plugged my 'master' adapter into my router. A quick trip upstairs, and 2 minutes later my son's PC had a solid network connection for the first time in months. Now for the Xbox! The kit is shipped with one device configured as a master, and the other as a terminal. Since I wanted to use 2 terminals with one master, I would need to configure adapters 3 and 4 to work with the master I had already set up. That took all of 5 minutes, following the very clear instructions provided in the manual. A couple more minutes of unplugging and plugging, and my Xbox also had a good connection to my router.Since then, I have not even thought about the devices. The master and both terminals work flawlessly, despite being on different circuits, connected at the house's fuse panel. The design is great, since the use of a power cord means you don't lose access to the other socket the way you may with competitive products that plug directly into the socket. This product saved me a lot of time and effort, and was well worth the price. Highly recommended.

Not for my house
I really wanted these to work. I bought two sets, then waited with great anticipation. They came today, and after three hours they're going back (hopefully - since amazon was using a reseller when I bought them 4 days ago I now have to deal with the reseller, not amazon. Preparing self for another expensive lesson.)Anyway, they work great in the same outlet. They work great in two outlets in the same room. They don't work anywhere else. I unplugged everything in my house (its easy, its a small house...) and still the units could not sync up. I re-partnered, I prayed, I killed a chicken (ok, I didn't do that last bit) and no matter what, unless they were in the same room they refused to find each other.Call me crazy, but that's not really much help. So, now if amazon's reseller will honor a return I will just be out $20 for the round trip shipping.I guess there is a good reason these are now selling for 1/4 of their original list price. They sure don't work in a 50+ year old house. Maybe they work in a brand new house. Anyway, be prepared for failure. They may work for you, and I believe that if they do work, they work well. They just don't work for me and my house, or I got 4 bad units.

Performance Too Variable
When this product is working well, it is very fast. However, it frequently slows down greatly and sometimes fails to communicate at all. If you had a house with nothing else plugged in, I am guessing that it would work great. If you have things like air conditioning, battery chargers, etc., it might not work so well for you. I returned this product using a label printed from Amazon and received a full refund. Amazon has great customer service!

Worked OK within some limitations.
I got these Panasonics to avoid drilling holes and such. My goal was to run networking out to the family room. Too much metal in the walls kills wifi signal penetration in the Wingnut castle. If you have a 1950s house that has been added on to and has a hacked up wiring system, these will likely not be a good purchase for you. They failed to push a signal as far as I needed it to go. Probably due to having to cross several different circuits.I repurposed them to carry network service from one room to the next (I knew the electrical outlets on the same wall were on the same electric circuit (same breaker). For this purpose, they worked well. I did eventually get around to paying someone to install an ethernet circuit to get network out to the family room. The instructions were well written, easy to understand. Easy enough for non-techies to hook up.

Worked great & easy to use
I was somewhat skeptical about these; it seemed too good to be true. But after struggling with the wireless in my house providing spotty performance I figured it was worth a try.The units themselves are well made, just what you would expect from Panasonic. The instructions were downright "stupid proof" to follow (ie: EASY!!). Set one unit to "Terminal" (default) and the other to "Master". Plug both into the same wall receptacle at the same time and press the "Setup" buttons on each unit at the same time. 30 seconds later, it is done. Move them to their final installment location, plug them into the wall and run a standard Ethernet cable to your PC. That's it - you are up and running. There are only 2 stipulations to be aware of 1- Do not run the device through a power strip as these often have noise filters in them. Plug the unit directly into the wall outlet. 2 - do not share the wall receptacle with a power transformer; the buzz could interfere with the unit.I went from 2 sporadic bars over a wireless G to 4 continuous bars with these units. Up & download times are a lot faster than they were over wireless.Simple, easy to use and effective.Elegant!
