Mate Abduction by Eve Langlais
Mate Abduction by Eve LanglaisAlien Abduction Series book 9. Can be read as a stand-alone science fiction short romance.Previously published in a short term anthology called Loved in Space.Clarabelle, one of the orphans from Earth in a prior book, is now an adult and on a quest to find more humans in the galaxy and hopefully a boyfriend.Amusing and a fast read. Overlapping races and a few characters if you’ve read previous books. Lighthearted escapism with medium heat / sex scenes.I love this author’s humor, so it was fun to read another book in the series.Excerpt “Fancy words don’t make it science.” “Actually, they do, because we have the studies to prove the existence of a sykyrah bond [mating bond]. Do you think you’re the first skeptic?” There was a time when his people used to fight the sykyrah, wondering why they had to obey, especially when the bond struck between a pair belonging to warring tribes. “Are you trying to tell me that people have managed to dissect these so-called matings? How?” she snorted. “Did they send out a survey and say hey, are you happy in your arranged marriage?” “No need to have couples submit anything given a sykyrah bond is very noticeable, not to mention measurable on a few scales.” “And because of some tests you’re going to claim instant love between people who never met before?” she challenged. “That’s how it happens most often. The turning of a corner, the sudden meeting of eyes.” “Then what? Lightning bolt?” “It’s a jolt of something. It’s hard to explain.” He shrugged. “But you felt it? With me?” she specified, making it obvious she hadn’t experienced the same. “We wouldn’t be talking otherwise.” “It’s one-sided only,” she stressed. “I don’t feel a thing.” “You will,” he said with assurance. Her lips flattened. “These sudden bonds, how many of them are successful long term? Do you have a lot of divorce?” The definition was a foreign concept. “There is no dissolution of a sykyrah bond, ever.” “What if the hubby turns out to be an abusive drunk? Or the wife cheats?” “A mated pair would never harm each other.” “If that’s true, then why do I want to slit your throat?” “Want and do are two mightily different things.” He didn’t worry given she’d sheathed her knives. “I’m sure in time I’ll make you content enough you’ll just want to strangle me.”Excerpt from Mate Abduction by Eve Langlais

I love this series!
Ok. Thyos is a sexy, clever, interesting alien with a very intriguing tail. 😉 Clarabelle is a human who was abducted when she was younger, and has lived with strong, willful, extremely feminist aliens ever since. She knows what she wants and ONLY that will do, even if her behavior is that of a rude, speciest brat. I truly had a REALLY hard time liking Clarabelle, but I completely loved this story overall. Especially the antics of Thyos’ overbearing family.

Alien abductions
These books are funny, easy reading and have sweet endings. I’m glad to read stories that aren’t full of horror or awful histories. I bought the set and I have read them in between other books. Really enjoy them.

A solid Langlais romp of a sci-fi romance
I’d had a migraine a couple of weeks ago, so I avoided screens and dove into romance novellas as a recovery activity, and “Mate Abduction” fit the bill to a tee. Eve Langlais (who is the mastermind behind Romancing the Capital) has a way with snarky, kickass heroines that I adore, and Clarabelle is no exception. And she’s definitely in a position where being a snarky, kickass heroine is going to come in handy, what with the whole abduction thing.See, back when she was on a class trip with a bunch of teenage misfit girls, Clarabelle’s whole trip worth of people were abducted by aliens. It was a whole thing, and they more of less landed on their feet with a race of Amazon-like aliens (who have beaks) who have since raised the kids more-or-less like their own, loving them in their own harsh way, but definitely with a heavy dose of warrior-training. Clarabelle is getting a bit older, though, and she’s sort of in the mood for y’know, some sexy times, and beaky amazon-like aliens aren’t going to cut it, so she asks (demands might be a better word) for a ship and a shot at finding more humans. Like, a boyfriend. Not just for her, but for all the girls.Going back to Earth isn’t an option—no one who has learned about alien races is allowed back at that particularly primitive planet—but other people must have been abducted, right? So Clarabelle begins her hunt for a very human male at the same time a really bronze, buff, and hunky (and okay, he has a tail) alien dude is out there looking for his own mate, and the local goddess has told him his mate isn’t on his own planet. They collide. He thinks it’s fate. She thinks a tail is too much. Hijinks and violence ensue. It’s all very Eve Langlais, and I chuckled and giggled my way through to the happy ending.

Overcoming misconceptions
This is one of those books that you find the best HEA once you make it past the beginning. With the confrontational attitude Belle wore like armor and the family who were less than supportive, I wasn’t sure the author and the Gods were going to lead these two characters to a HEA. But there was also more than a little bit of humor and sass and this fantastic guy that put up with everything to find the real Belle. The author did not disappoint either, she helped these two navigate all the interfaces and find the relationship they were both looking for making for a story book ending. I can’t wait to read the next book from this author, I’m sure it is going to be just as good.
