Must Read for Winter’s Fury fans!
Just when you’ve come through the ordeals, battles, dangers, wounds, and knotted tension of The Furyk Saga, you come across this delightful “novella” that as a “prequel” to Winter’s Fury, lends you greater depth and insight into the lives, histories, and motivations of the “cast of thousands” characters you fall in love with (or hate, or view with trepidation) once you’ve taken the plunge into Winter’s Fury. Gems provided in this novella include background on Jael & Tig’s history, Jael & Alexander’s reasons for distrusting their long-time trainer and champion Gant, the even more twisted than we knew family dynamics between the Furyk royal family and their usurper uncle and his son, … and, in Oss, finally the story of what the Alekkan debacle was! The glimpse into Oss gives heart-warming and prescient details about young Eydis, more personal information about Entworp than you’ll find in the first two books (LOL!) and a portrait-clear picture of the captivating appearance — and relative youth — of Evaine, revealing her already darkly corrupted soul and her knowledge of and willingness to employ dark magic for her own ends. Those are the highlights, but not spoilers. The novella is enjoyable for its own sake and is clear enough that it can be read as a stand alone or as a prequel. My nerves appreciated the backstory — and its fights and adventures — as good tales, great insight, and “a-ha!” moments, now that I have found my way home from The Furyk Saga’s Vale of the Gods. … Or, perhaps, my heart and mind is still with my latest beloved friends and I’ll have to seek solace in the Alekkan Saga!

Interesting read but ......
An interesting read but it added nothing to the main story or its characters. Was hoping for more but it missed.

Good read
This was a captivating read. There were a lot of characters and locations though and I found myself needing to keep notes.

One of my newest fav series
Exceptionally well written, suspense filled with a touch of the fantastic along with building off the basis of Norse myths, the Furyck Saga bks are a rare treat to read. Yes, they're very long so be prepared to dig in but they're worth every moment, every page & seeing how it all ends will keep you reading as quickly as possible up until the end.

Ok I am hooked
I had this author on my list to check out, not sure how. When this came up as a freebie I was excited. There are many characters, which confused me at first, but I am hanging in there. Well written, with compelling characters and an epic story shaping up, I am happy to plunk down money to continue the tale. I'd you like fantasy and adventure, this is for you.

Disjointed viewpoints
The story isn't bad, but it switches viewpoints at the drop of a hat, making it hard to keep up at times. It doesn't help that we are told two stories in parallel, taking place in two different countries.

Loved it
The beginning took me time to get through since there were so many characters to learn. It was a bit confusing at first, but a few chapters in, the story took off and I was all in!

The making of a legendary warrior princess
What a good story! I had actually read 'Winter's Fury' first. I fell in love with the story and characters. When I found out about this story, I had to stop and read it first. It really helped introduce the characters and set up the 'Furyck Saga' stories perfectly. Can't wait to read more. Highly recommend.

Ahhhhh so much explained
Definitely glad I read this after all the other books as it explained everything that had been a bit puzzling. And reminded me of how much I want to see this series on screen. It really is an excellent series & keeps you absolutely glued to the book. Not conducive to sleep or getting anything else done though, but well worth it. This series really makes you feel like you’re traipsing through a frozen muddy fort, watching events unfold as you clutch a cloak around you, wind trying to wrestle it away as it blows the smells of a medieval town around you. Eyes glued to the fiery warrior dreamer who is prickly & fierce but loves absolutely & is incredibly loyal, strong & fights for right.

COMMA-ITIS
It is really unfortunate how poor editing can get in the way of a rippingly good read. Seldom have I read a book so plagued with comma abuse. They're thrown in indiscriminately, willy-nilly, with no regard to any rule. And the editor might profit from a crash course in the proper usage of "though" and "although." I've used one comma in this short critique. Had editing been left to this author's editor, it would be riddled with commas!

Aye, no bad, onto Book One…
Prequels.. ahh, some are instant winners, and some are slow burners. This is in the middle, not to be sniffed at, no ma’am, it’s certainly got lot’s of action and anticipation to keep you on edge. I’d say the second half is more of what you fantasy fiction fanatics are looking for. By necessity, the first half is ‘buildy-uppy‘ & laying some ground work. I did feel a bit disconnected for a while, however this is because I’m new to the series/author, if you’ve already read some of the books, I imagine you’ll feel right at home. My appetite to read the rest of the series is satisfied with this opening course of fare. I’m already a fan of ‘Jael’, she’s got the makings of a great character. The ships sailed, the knights were mailed,The horse had to flail, the men caught whale,A tale about a lady… called ‘Jael’
