Golden Girl: The Story of Jessica Savitch
I am just about finished reading this book. It is excellent reading. The author, Alanna Nash, gives you a complete in-depth account of Jessica's life starting with her grandparents' immigration to America. You learn about Jessica's birth through her untimely death. The author takes you, in great detail, through Jessica's relationships with her family, friends, husbands and co-workers. You learn about Jessica's accomplishments, weaknesses and challenges in the TV news reporting industry. If you're looking for the complete book on Jessica's life, this is it. The way Alanna Nash writes makes each page flow on to the next. This is easy reading. Although the title is similar to the Lifetime movie, this book goes into much deeper detail.

Sobering and tragic
... is the story of Jessica Savitch, who was certainly the Golden Girl of Philadelphia broadcast news at one point and whose name lives on in infamy in this city. I was the little girl who looked up to her; my father adored her; my mother felt her to be a good career example. Thus was the face that fooled everyone, including herself. This biographer's work is extremely thorough and very well written. Every paragraph is captivating. I couldn't put it down -- and I knew how it ended.

Tragic, yet truthful
I really enjoyed it. I wish it would have spent more time on her life towards the end, but nevertheless, it was a good read. There were alot of things about Jessica Savitch I thought I knew, or assumed rather. I knew her life ended tragically but I did not know the last few years of her life were tragic. The story of Jessica Savitch proves that the biggest tragedy in life is not getting what you want and the second biggest is getting it.

Used book not worth $$$
This book was used. Not worth $20.00 as the book cover was falling off and very yellow with grease stains on it.

Fascinating Biography.
The life of Jessica Savitch was one of heartbreak. She needed to be loved by somebody, and not even her mother was able to show this emotion. Her relationship with Kershaw was sadness in itself. The book was well written and kept me glued to it from start to finish.

Excellent volume.
When they made the movie they used this well researched book.Detailed account of this woman's way to fast rise to TV newscaster fame. Her personal emotional problems are detailed here, as well as the events which brought her career downward. Triumph ( in a sense), and tragedy.

A good read
This is apparently a well written and enjoyable book (my husband is currently halfway through it!). The author has also written several books about Elvis Presley.
