Quirky, funny, a good light read
I found this book very enjoyable. You should know before choosing to read it that it's very campy. Maybe you'll like that, or maybe it will annoy the heck out of you. I personally found it very funny and entertaining. A vampire needs a dentist? Okay, it's ridiculous and silly, but I can't even think about it without giggling. A lot of the book was like that, silly and campy, but for a fun, light, enjoyable read for when you just need to relax and read something fun, I thought this book was great.Roman is extremely angsty. He hates himself completely. I am a total sucker for angsty, I-hate-myself vampires, so I absolutely fell in love with that part of the book. It made me wish that was the main feature of the book and that the book wasn't so silly at times. His back-story really moved me. His feelings about himself are exactly what I look for in a lead vampire. However, I did find his characterization inconsistent at times. I find it difficult to believe that Roman could be so confident with Shanna if he hated what he was so much.Shanna I liked at times and hated at times. She is a strong, professional, intelligent woman, which is good to see in paranormal romance. However out of nowhere she would act weak at times. Also she would get angry at Roman for no good reason and would lash out at him, which I found annoying. Still this only occurred in a few parts and wasn't that big a deal. The only real disappointment for me was that the ending was very rushed. A lot of things were set up in this book. Of course it's the first in a long series, so I didn't expect much to be resolved, but the book made it seem like problems were instantly fixed and no longer a problem, when obviously these problems should be a huge deal and not so easily dismissed. Considering the next book moves on to a different couple, that was a major letdown for me.All in all I found this a fun read. If you like books that try to be silly at times, I think you'll like it. If you really get into angsty, self-loathing vampires, this is the book for you. But if neither of those things do it for you, I'd skip this book. It's not an epic or amazing book. It's just a fun, light, entertaining read.

It IS A Five Star Read!
Wow, and I do mean WOW!! Tired rehashed plot? Nope, not here. Fresh and original? Absolutely. First off, it's a comedy vamp romance, and yes, there are plenty of those to be had these days, but again, the humor and situations leading to it are fun and a totally new experience in Spark's version. Let's face it, fellow authors and readers, with the vast majority of romance talent out there, there's more than enough room in the vamp subgenre to welcome this new series into the ever growing vamp fold.Roman Dragonesti is a vamp on the run--for a dentist! Through a freak accident, and a little snafu of misplaced fang action, he's lost one of his sharp eating utensils. He must find a dentist he can coerce into fixing his problem, or forever bo faced with the stigma of single fanged eating for eternity. Shanna Whelan is on the run too, from hired thugs threatening to snuff her life because of murders she witnessed. Due to the murders, her tenuous career as a dentist is rockier than ever, for she cannot abide the sight of blood. When Roman rescues her from an assassination attempt, she suddenly has a gorgeous new savior--one she finds out all too soon is not quite as perfect as she hoped. With problems no girl should have to face in a relationship, will Shanna overcome her fear of blood and learn to see there's more to life than a "normal" existence? Roman certainly hopes so. Shanna has brought smiles and warmth into a life he thought long dead. He means to have her for his own and he's willing to make some sacrifices.Okay, so this isn't some supercharged, superhero-driven vamp rollarcoaster ride in tight black leather and spandex. Too that, I say good! What we have here are some awesome characters from Scottish vampire security guards (complete with kilts) to a plethora of amusing vamp "harem" girls ready to get hot and heavy with the hero and heroine. Shanna is a super heroine, torn by her determination to live, despite being marked for death and attracted like nobody's business to Roman. Her reactions to his vamp culture are hilarious and fun to read. Roman is a tortured hero, but what vamp that survives hundreds of years and many gruesome atrocities wouldn't be? He is honorable, good and a true leader to his fellow vampires, one that cares. Sparks has done a superb job of creating yet another vampire world where her particular breed of vamps thrive with vitality, wit and stellar development. There were many characters, but she does a great job of keeping the focus on Shanna and Roman. Good clean writing carries the reader swiftly through the action and romance. Five very enthusiastic and well-deserved stars!

Anyone point me to the dentist?
Roman Draganesti is a powerful and ancient vampire in charge of his own coven. Unfor, he seems to have a few bumbling idiots on his staff. A blood bag experimental sex doll filled with blood causes one of his fangs to fall out.A Vampire without a full set of fangs, the shame, and so this sex comedy begins. The story reminded me of one of those 1970s sex comedies more than anything else as it unwinds. We have Incompetent Russian undead mafia, CIAs elite vampire killing team, and so on, all tripping over each other as Roman and his dentist fall into lust together. It has to be read to be believed.

It's always nighttime somewhere!
The first thing I have to say is that vampire books are not usually my sort of thing. The second thing I have to say is that this book is brilliant! From the opening scenes where Roman Draganesti (a genius vampire scientist and inventor of artificial blood) has a fang fall out and goes in search of a 24 hour dentist, you can tell this this story doesn't take itself too seriously.A 24 hour vampire TV channel - The Digital Vampire Network whose catch phrase is "It's always nighttime somewhere"A CIA "Stake-Out Team" of vampire hunters. An army of Scottish Highlander vampires all in kilts.A French vampire fashion designer. And Shanna, a very confused female dentist on the run from the Russian Mafia who finds herself falling in love with a vampire. This book really was hugely enjoyable. The strong storyline, brilliant characters and a large helping of humour kept me turning the pages right to the end.Presentation on the Kindle is absolutely first class. Formatting, chapter and paragraph breaks are perfect and there is an active table of contents. The book cover art is also included and looks really very good in black and white. As I said, vampire books have never been my thing, humorous books don't often hit my funny-bone and I would usually run a mile from a romance novel, but this book succeeds on all counts!Overall - 5 stars and highly recommended!

Must try harder.
I think this could possibly be a new sub-genre of vampire fiction - Christian vampire romance fiction. I really could have lived without the Christian ethics being peddled throughout as an attempt to justify the vampire's apparent kindness towards humanity and make him a 'good guy'. He's a vampire for goodness sake - he's way beyond that level of morality. It was completely unnecessary to the plot and it seemed obvious that the Christian references were only put there to indoctrinate the reader, which personally I found patronising and irritating. Maybe it would work better in a juvenile market, but as the book is clearly aimed at an adult audience I felt it detracted from the story. The other main annoyance was the woeful attempt at writing a Scottish accent for the Highlander guards. This would be laughable if it wasn't so excruciatingly bad. It's as though the only Scots accent that the writer has ever heard is that of Groundskeeper Willie in The Simpsons. Perhaps inevitably, that's exactly who they looked like in my imagination. I couldn't take them seriously at all.I would say that the storyline is OK but not sparkling, and the writing is fairly competent; but there's too much vamp fiction around at the moment and this just doesn't stand out as being anything special - it's mildly entertaining at best. The plot isn't particularly fast-moving and feels like it's being overly stretched out to fill the book. The characters struggle to be more than two-dimensional. The main 'good guy' vamp was potentially quite an interesting character, apart from his Christian angst. The 'bad guy' vamp was very stereotypical; his only interesting character trait was a tendency to crack his neck bones from time to time. The heroine at least was a bit feisty, but I mean... a dentist with a fear of blood? Really?Sorry, but the stakes are pretty high in this field of fiction just now (pardon the pun). This just about manages to rise above 'mediocre', but no further. Must try harder.

A bit lukewarm
Another reviewer described this book as lukewarm and I think that is spot on. It's not a bad book, there are just much better examples of this genre out there. The characters of Shanna (blood phobic dentist in the Witness Protection Programme, hiding from the mob) and Roman (wealthy vampire businessman who specialises in the manufacture of synthetic blood products) are appealing enough. The dialogue is fine. The storyline is interesting enough too- Roman is in need of a dentist, having broken one of his fangs. He chooses Shanna and turns up in the nick of time, just as the mob are closing in on her. He rescues her and tries to keep her safe. Their relationship develops into something more but Shanna is unaware of what Roman is.So, if all these things are okay, why am I not raving about this book? I think the crux of the problem is that there isn't really enough heat or tension between the characters, so the romance angle is a bit lacking. The plot is mildy amusing but not actually funny. It takes far too long for Shanna to properly clue into the fact that Roman is a vampire and I personally find all that a bit boring. With series like Sookie Stackhouse, Broken Heart and Queen Betsy where the vamp stuff is already out in the open to at least those that count, the big build up to the discovery that someone is a vampire seems terribly passe now.So, it won't be a bad decision to read this book, if it has caught your eye, but don't be surprised if you are a bit underwhelmed.

Funny and romantic.
Shanna and Roman are the two main characters in this book. They are so funny, I was in stitches with the first few pages, then when he finds the dentist who is afraid of blood of all things, the adventure really kicks in. Kerrelyn Sparks had it all in this story, which in my book has got it to a tee. I enjoyed it so much and is glad there are more like this. I am definitely going to get the other books. If vampire's are real then I would definitely want one just like him, but that's not saying much for me as I love all of the vampire's I have read about, which have all been sexy, and charming. I'm afraid I'm not that lucky to get someone like that. I told my friend about the book and that was it, I had to tell her every thing that happened. We both had a good laugh, and wished for the same things Haha. Another great author to add to my very huge collection. This is such a good read I recommend it to every one. Don't think "Oh no vampire and fantasy" Because those types of stories are brilliant especially if you love romantics. Go on go for it.
