So easy to do….
Having heard that “it’s easier to replace the tap than to replace the ceramic valve”, when my kitchen tap started dripping, I started to look at new taps. In my search, I discovered a video demonstrating that replacing the cartridge is very easy, so I bought these replacement cartridges. My fear of the unknown got the better of me, and I kept putting it off for a couple of weeks before the drip, drip forced me to have a go. Armed with the Allen key provided, and an adjustable spanner, I turned the water off, and started the job with not a little trepidation. My first, and as it turned out, my only mistake, was assuming that the cold water valve was the most likely to have worn. Having replaced the cold water valve, I turned the water back on. With crossed fingers, I returned to the kitchen, only to find that the tap was still dripping. It was a 50/50 chance of hot or cold….and I got that wrong….!!! Having found how easy the job had been though, I set about replacing the hot water valve…might I add, with total confidence in my ability. Less than five minutes later, I turned the water back on….and hey presto….no drip…….!!!! Having discovered how easy it is to change the valves, and also finding that Francke have discontinued this model, I have bought another pair of replacement cartridges to keep in the drawer for when the tap starts dripping again….hopefully not for at least five years…..!!!!!!

Not OEM but still fitted.
Delivery was on schedule and these are a great price compared to original equipment. I'm cautious when trying pattern parts but these replaced leaking units on our Franke Olympus without problem. They fitted easily and early indications are they have solved the dripping.

Great value cartridges
Bought these for our Franke Olympus tap which was purchased in 2013. The tap was only dripping very slowly, perhaps half an egg cup over night but annoying just the same. Using the under sink isolators proved that it was due to the hot valve only, so kept the cold valve for future use. Handles are easily removed using the supplied 2 mm Allen key (a nice touch) and the valves removed using a 17 mm spanner. In my case there was no need to hold the brass bush, although there is plenty of room to grip it with small Stilsons or Molegrips if necessary. It is also worth checking for any corrosion in the tap body where the red/blue seal at the end of the valve mates (see photo). Our’s had slight corrosion in this area which appears to be due to water bleeding through the interface and causing the drip. It was removed by very gentle use of a universal tap reseating tool. The valves are very similar to the originals with a few dimensional differences (see photo). As other reviewers have noted the red/blue seals are about 1.5 mm deeper than the originals, which have possibly compressed over time. They also have a different ‘concertina’ type design which may offer better sealing. A lick of silicon grease was applied to the black o-ring when fitting the new valve. The valve splines don’t always allow perfect vertical alignment of the handles, which is the same on the originals. However, fine adjustment was achieved by nipping the valve up and tightening or loosening it very slightly to achieve the correct position. Valve quality appears to be at least as good as the originals and only time will tell how they wear. Costing less than a third of two genuine valves and with Prime next day delivery, I am very pleased with my purchase so far.

Fits Howdens Lamona Victorian
I purchased these cartridges to replace the Howdens Lamona Victorian tap cartridges which use the SP3561 cartridge and these fit nicely. Time will tell how long they last. The original one’s lasted 8 years. These were much cheaper than purchasing from Tap Spare outlets or Howdens. I did try off shelf from a plumber’s merchant’s but the handle kept slipping off as the spine bit was a couple of mm smaller. So far so good.

Excellent replacement cartridges
These replacement cartridges were of good quality and very easy to fit. Whilst I only needed to use one of the cartridges it is good to gave the other as a spare for when the hot water one needs replacing. It was helpful having the allen key included with the cartridges too. I placed the order in the morning and it was delivered that evening. The price was also very competitive compared to other suppliers.

Works, but too stiff
Bought these to replace a dripping cold water tap's cartridge. It works, but the lever is now far stiffer than it is was. Screw the fixture in finger tight and the lever is fine, but if you nip it up with a spanner, the lever becomes too stiff. The coloured rubber washer on the end, appears to be much fatter than the original's. Lever is almost too stiff to use, so this is a temporary fix at best.
