Produced in 1980, this Christmas Album was produced by Meco Monardo (who had previously recorded Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk). Anthony Daniels voiced C-3PO and Ben Burtt provided the sounds for R2-D2 and Chewbacca. 'What Can You Get a Wookiee for Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb)' reached #69 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in 1980. It was the third digitally recorded single in chart history. Jon Bon Jovi made his first recording ever on this album (credited as John Bongiovi), singing lead vocals on 'R2-D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas.' Bon Jovi did it as a favor to his cousin Tony Bongiovi, one of the producers of the album.

Cheesy, but entertaining Star Wars Christmas Album
I bought this CD back in December 2015 when it was released to coincide with the release of "The Force Awakens," knowing what people thought of it, but still wanting to hear for myself, because I like Christmas music. I have to say, it's actually entertaining, even though it's incredibly cheesy, but then you have to understand the era in which it was produced and that it's target audience, like Star Wars, are kids. It is hosted by C - 3PO himself, Anthony Daniels with help from R2 - D2 (of course). I will say that the album gave me a laugh. It has some really funny robot voices singing some silly lyrics. Consider the following line from the song "Merry, Merry Christmas": "Merry merry Christmas. Merry Christmas, with glee. Drink some rum, have a honey bun, decorate a Christmas tree. Merry merry Christmas. Merry Christmas to who? Take a guess. Yes yes. Merry Christmas to you." Talk about cheese. Having said that, the album gets really annoying at the end, especially the last song where Daniels drags out the ending and can't seem to stop wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. I wanted him to just end the dang song. It's sooo cheesy, but if the holidays tend to get you down, then this should give you a good laugh (if not make your eyes roll). I don't think the album has a lot of replay value as it's the one Christmas album I listen to the least, and this, along with it's cheesiness, is why I rate it so low. The album has the same cover art by Ralph McQuarrie, the original concept artist for Star Wars. There are also robotic sound effects by Ben Burtt, the original sound designer behind Star Wars. The disc comes in a slim, cardboard case with the disc inside a yellow sleeve. The disc itself is shiny red, and made to look like a vinyl record with grooves along the top. All I can say is, if you like Star Wars and cheesy Christmas music, then you'll like this.

Childhood memories taken over by the Dark Side of the Force...
Sorry, Star Wars fans. I, too, knew this was going to be total cheese when I purchased it (fond memories of my childhood as I had - and still have - the 45 single of "What Can You Get a Wookiee for Christmas (when he already owns a comb?)"). However, this is absolute sell-out garbage. Though I'm sure he was paid handsomely for efforts/participation, I feel really bad for Anthony Daniels having to sing-speak his way through utter tripe like Star Wars themed/tweaked lyrics to "Sleigh Ride" and an absolute travesty of re-working Clement Moore's "Twas the Night Before Christmas." Perhaps it's just me as I've since grown up (and this is definitely for the kiddies folks - albeit kids from the late 70's), but I find it absolutely inexcusable to place our values and traditions on an alien galaxy far, far away and expect the inhabitants of said galaxy to not only celebrate Christmas but expect Santa Claus to visit all the "boys and girls" in all reaches of the galaxy - albeit with clones of "S. Claus." Only disco-scholock producer Meco Menardo could conceive of this triffle, and only Broadway composer Maury Yeston could write the original songs (obviously throwaways from his usual oeuvre that includes "Nine" and "Titanic") that fall so flat upon the ears. And I'm sure one John Bongiovi, who was recently inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, would wish this (his apparently first professional vocal appearance) would have been sent to Spice Mines of Kessel or destroyed in the Death Star explosion. And yes, that is the proper spelling of his name, and his cousin Tony, who has produced much better albums by much better artists, co-produced this rubbish. That all being said, the "Wookiee" song is still catchy and probably why it was released as a single at the time. The rest is filler. Diehard Star Wars probably treasure this collection, along with that long-bootlegged VHS copy of a copy of the "Star Wars Thanksgiving Special" that aired once on CBS I believe in 1977 or 1978, and to use the famous BBC parlance: "Lost, presumed wiped" (mercifully for all those involved including Jefferson Starship who contributed another forgotten tie-in single "Light The Sky On Fire" - used to have that single too but sold it a long time ago). To be honest, I don't even think today's kids would fall for this crap as they're much more sophisiticated today than I was at their age back in the late 70's. Buy at your own risk. Listen once, have a giggle, and stick it in your Star Wars memorabilia collection. Or re-sell it here or on Ebay I don't care.

I Can’t Believe I Didn’t Know About This Sooner!
I collect contemporary and goofy holiday music for a huge playlist and am shocked I didn’t know about this CD of original Star Wars themed music sooner! Yes, this is really cheesy and corny, but it features Anthony Daniels as C-3PO throughout as well as authentic sounds of R2D2 and Wookie growls, not to mention the debut of Jon Bon Jovi! Like the infamous Holiday Special, this is something great to just have for bragging rights... if your friends are geeks.

Horrible sound quality
This rating is for the newly released 2015 CD version. As others have stated, the sound quality on this CD is horrible, especially the last 2 tracks. Compressed to the max and everything is cranked up to 11, so parts that are meant to be at a lower volume are so loud it's a distorted mess. It's a shame, the packaging is nice, too bad the same care didn't go into the actual mastering. Glad I have my original LP. Sending it back

Star Wars sotto l'albero
Una chicca che ogni appassionato di Star Wars non dovrebbe farsi scappare. Musiche anche piacevoli e divertenti da ascoltare. Abbinare il Natale con SW non era facile, ma anche grazie a Bon Jovi ci sono riusciti. Grandissimo Anthony Daniels
