Light, Small and FANTASTIC!
My teenaged son was recently diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. This means we are now counting carbs. When it comes to food where the carb serving size is given in ounces, this scale is the champ. When it comes to counting the carbs in a fruit or vegetable, this scale is perfecto. For example, let's say he's going to have an apple. Well, you read that a small apple has 13 carbs and a medium apple has 17 carbs and an extra large apple has 36 carbs. But, wait, is this a large or a medium apple? Not to worry - because a 4 oz apple has 13 carbs and an 11 oz apple has 36 carbs. Kitchen scale to the rescue. This EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale has so many positives:1. Low profile. If you don't want to leave it out on the counter, it takes up very little room in the cupboard. It is only 1 1/2 inches high, 5 1/2 inches wide and 8 1/4 inches long.2. You can set it to display weight in ounces, pounds, grams or kilograms. Ounces are measured in multiples of 0.05 ounces. Grams are measured in multiples of 1 gram.3. When you turn the scale on, it calibrates, and sets the display to 0.0. The scale's capacity, according to the manual, is 11 lbs or 5 kg. This is not the best scale if you are a butcher and need a heavy-duty scale. But it is perfect for your average kitchen.3. The TARE function (on the ON/OFF TARE button) makes measuring extremely easy. What this means is that you can set the scale back to 0.0 even if there is something sitting on it. You do not have to worry about weighing the container first, and then subtracting its weight from the total weight to get the weight of your ingredient. You put the bowl on the scale. Lets say the scale displays 12.5 oz. Do not take the bowl off the scale, but push the ON/OFF TARE button. The scale display goes back to 0.0. Add your soup or butter or whatever to the bowl and now you are painlessly measuring only the contents of the bowl. This works even if you have to measure several ingredients as you add them. Let's say your first ingredient is 6 oz of flour. After the scale weighs the bowl, hit ON/OFF TARE so reset display to 0.0. Gradually add flour until the display reads 6.0. When the scale reads 6.0, press the ON/OFF TARE button again and the display returns to 0.0. Add your second ingredient, 3 oz of sugar. etc etc. It couldn't be simpler. (In the U.S. we don't use ounces or grams much for measuring solids, but if you buy a European cookbook, you will.)3. Automatic shut-off saves battery life.4. Battery replacement is a simple door on the bottom. The scale uses two AAA batteries.5. The digital disply is in large easy-to-read numbers.6. This is a simple scale and nothing else which means it's simple to operate. There's only two buttons to push - ON/OFF TARE and UNIT. It will display LO if the battery is low and O_LD if too much weight (over the scale's capacity) has been placed on the scale.6. It comes in fun colors. I love my red scale.7. The price is right. We use the scale in conjunction with the wonderful CalorieKing book. I was overjoyed to find that this book is available in a larger print edition. Love it!
This is a repeat buy of this brand, not because they don't last, but because I just have been using it at least once a day for many years. I had silver before; this time I bought red to go with my kitchen decor. It is attractive, small enough to leave out even with my limited counter space, very easy to use, reliable, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend it!

Good Qualitly scale at a very good price.
This was the second unit we ordered; the first worked okay, but it was scratched up on the scale and other parts of the unit. It seemed to be a customer return that they perhaps shipped to us. It was no hassle to ship it back (thru Kohls) and we just received our new scale. It is brand new, no marks anywhere and we are very pleased with it. This is our second scale of this brand, as our first finally started to malfunction after several years, and we are happy customers. I will include the photos of both our original and our first replacement and our scale which we received today. ( 1/25/23). You can pay more for a scale of this quality, but you would be wasting your money-this is a very good quality scale and at a great price. The first red is the first replacement, the white is our original, and the second red is our new scale. I apologize for the poor lighting on the first red-it doesn't show the marking that clearly, but they were extenstive.

Excellent value and function
I bake artisan bread and have been using a triple beam balance that, while accurate to 0.1g, is very slow and requires manual calculation to tare and keep track of items as they are weighed. Although this is only accurate to 1.0g, it is much faster and is accurate enough for home bread baking. All you have to do is tare your weighing container (I use a re-cycled butter tub), weigh flour--> tare, weigh next type of flour--> tare, weigh other ingredients and press tare after each. It couldn't be simpler. Also allows you to choose between four different types of weights: grams, ounces, kilograms, and pounds.Very good product.Update, 1-22-13: After using it for a couple of weeks and baking numerous loaves of bread, I can honestly say, this is the best thing since sliced bread! It makes weighing so fast and simple, I can't believe I didn't order one of these before.Tip: (from a recipe I got from a great bread baking site, The Fresh Loaf ([...])): When starting a poolish, it often calls for 0.12g or 0.1g or 0.2g, or some such ridiculously small number for the yeast. Solution?...measure out 2g of yeast, add 200g of water. Then, if the recipe calls for 0.12g of yeast, add 12g of yeast water (be sure to subtract that 12g of water from the total water called for in the recipe). If the recipe wants 0.2g yeast, add 20g water, and so on. Just multiply the measurement called for by 100 and you have the amount of yeast water needed.Another interesting point using this scale: after using a triple beam accurate to 0.1g for so long, it is apparent that you can "eyeball/approximate/guesstimate"(?) the tenths of a gram a recipe may call for just by slowly adding the ingredient being measured. When the scale just barely rolls over to a new whole number, i.e. 25, you know you are close to that figure. If you add just a smidge more, so that 26 is not reached, you know you are somewhere in the mid-range between 25g & 26g. You can get even closer by carefully controlling the size of the "smidges" you add. Also keeping in mind that a drop of water is close to 0.5 to 1g all by itself. I know that on the triple beam, if it was in perfect balance, adding one "normal" drop of water would make it pin to the upper stop (which was at most 0.5g - not precisely sure about that and don't feel like dragging it out to test it).And a reinforcement to another reviewer's recommendation to put a small piece of plastic wrap over the digital window and the buttons when weighing. No matter how careful I am, there will always be something that ends up on that area of the scale, especially flour. If you do much weighing in the kitchen, buy this scale. You won't regret it.

Excellent product
I have found this product invaluable in determining the amount of nutrients one is getting on a daily basis. Without something like this you cannot quickly and easily determine whether you are getting your recommended dietary intake. I love the 1 gram precision provided. This product does not keep track of what food you are measuring and tell you its nutrient breakdown. But in the end checking online is more dynamic and comprehensive. I doubt I would use one with built in food values. For the best bang for the buck, I highly recommend this product.

Awesome so glad I bought one
It's the perfect size for my kitchen counter which is not very roomy and so easy to use. I love that it has a variety of unit measurements. I used it immediately as soon as I am packed it and it's fantastic
