The DX5e brings together the unbeatable control of genuine DSMX technology with the simplest, easiest-to-use design available, letting anyone, from parkfliers to students to instructors and more, take advantage of Spektrum technology for less. For a Spektrum radio and an AR610 receiver, the DX5e is the greatest value in RC, putting 2.4GHz DSMX control in your hands for less than ever before. Neck strap is available separately. The DSMX branded DX5e transmitter is not compatible with the Spektrum AR6000/BR6000 receiver.

Not worth the risk
I used this transmitter with my Blade 200 QX for about two weeks before the power switch malfunctioned. After a flight, I switched the transmitter off, but it simply reset the unit. After a few more tries, I was able to finesse the power button in such a way that it would stay off. A few days later, the controller randomly began turning on and off repeatedly, sounding like an alarm, even though the power switch was still in the "off" position.I did some research online, and it appears this is a common problem with this transmitter - enough so that there are videos on YouTube of this exact problem. Unfortunately, none of the reviews I saw on here mentioned the issue. I wanted to give future purchasers a heads up!I ended up shipping this one back and picking up its slightly more expensive big brother, the DX6i.I gave the transmitter two stars because when it did work, it worked exceptionally well. The ratcheted throttle was nice and made it easy to keep a steady hover when yawing. I was really bummed that this controller malfunctioned as it seemed amazing for the price.

Great transmitter for someone starting out. Much much getter than the RTF transmitters.
I've bought a half dozen of these over the last year for friends just getting started in the hobby. It's very inexpensive and give you full range capability. Must better to get this than the cheap under powered RTF transmitter that comes with the ultra micros from Horizon. Looks like they have just discontinued this so if you want one, you better chase it down now. They are replacing it with what might eventually be better for some people (if they get the bugs out). They have come out with something similar, but you have to control everything from a comuter or a smartphone. Nobody is going to want to take their laptop to the field and a lot of guys, especially guys buying this low end transmitter, don't have smartphones. From what I read on the forums, the software for the new unit is super buggy so that's a big problem at least in the short term. Personally, I think the DX5e was a much better transmitter for the newbie. I highly recommend it if you can find one now.

great functionality for the price
i consider myself a beginner pilot and RC hobbyist, i think it's fair to say we all have something to learn, my only problem with this unit was that it was difficult to put 4 AA batteries in the compartment - eventually i got them in without breaking anything - thank goodness, i shopped around and found this "on sale" and it does exactly what i need - control a level-1 RC aircraft (Blade 200 QX) - my first level-1 quad, against my better judgement - i tested the combo tonight at night-time and was amazed by the seamlessness of the pair, i flew and more importantly safely landed the quad right in front of me not due to my piloting skills but thanks to the successful marriage of technology of this controller and quad

Great Cheap Transmitter-- for Blade 200 QX
I purchased this transmitter about a month ago (12/16). I use this transmitter with my "Bind-n-fly" Blade 200 QX quad.At first, I had difficulty starting the props on my quadcopter, but after resetting the trim on the transmitter.. the quad and transmitter worked as I had hoped. The device feels good to hold, but since the DX5e is so large, it makes it difficult to adjust trim and switch flying modes. The build is very durable and strong. The only part about this controller I find annoying is its throttle joystick. The stick moves around and has a real tense feel to it. It also makes a loud grunty sound when rotated around. It just feels different and almost fake.Other than that, I do like this transmitter. & I would recommend... for the Blade 200 QX though.

Getting dad into flying!
Got this for my dad. He got me into RC airplanes years ago. Hes never been able to fly without crashing 30 seconds in. So i got him this remote, and a new airplane and taught him how to fly. This remote is perfect for his as he does not like all the switches on my 18 channel remote. He is now easily getting 20 minute flights!!

It is what it is.
You get exactly what you order. It works great if you have only one plane and are not planning on ever getting more, or if it is a very simple BNF aircraft that doesn't need rates or programming of any sort. However, as an experienced RC aircraft hobbyist, I would recommend the DX6i if you are trying to get into the hobby, and may get more than one plane in the future.

Excellent radio for any use such as mini quads or planes. The left lever seems a little bit weird. It has this kind of clicking sound, which im not sure what it is, however still usable.
