Nicely made and finished. Was the perfect solution for an older Raleigh hybrid MTB/Road bike. Fairly priced.
A friend who has spinal issues recently asked whether I could modify his bike in a way that would give him a more upright posture and relieve neck pain when riding. I knew an extender was the likely solution and settled on the Sunlite for his older Raleigh MTB/road hybrid. The extender was a perfect fit for the head tube, had a nice finish, and had the heft and machining of a decent-quality component. The additional elevation did require a recabling job, as the original cables had little slack in them. The job turned out well, and the additional three inches of handlebar height have made road biking much more enjoyable for my buddy. It was well worth the effort.

The Fall and Rise of a Stem
The media could not be loaded. This is a basic item that does exactly what you expect of it. Raises the height of your handlebars by increasing the height of your stem. I have an older Trek roadbike and the handlebars were way below the level of the seat. After installing the riser I was quite happy with how sturdy it was. It raised the height above the seat more than I really needed even at the lowest setting so beware of this. It made for a less aggressive but far more comfortable position. I had to install a new/longer front brake cable and housing but the shifter and rear brake cables were fine. As you can see the quill stem extender is finished in black so it did not match the brushed silver finish of the stock stem or headset, this may offend some roadies but it doesn't bother me a bit. I would guess that this modification can change the geometry and handling of a bike but I notice no change whatsoever. It's good to note that this quill extender is designed for threaded steerer tubes or threaded stems. If you have a threadless steerer tube or threadless headset it's not for you. You can check out my short silent video.

Awesome sunlite extension!
Update: I finally have had a chance of riding my bike with the sunlite extension quill, and I love it. There was one time I was coming home from church and for some reason could not steer, so I walked my bike home, this is not an issue with the product, It was my fault that I didn’t tighten the bolt down enough. Thankfully I figured out it wasn’t the extension that was the issue, but I did make sure that bolt was tight, it was the bolt of my quill stem that goes into the extension that was loose so I tightened that up and then the steering was back to normal or excellent. I’ve otherwise had no problems with the extension, it’s awesome and really makes a difference in my riding making it more enjoyable than ever before! This extension is awesome! This just made riding my bike a lot more fun and much more comfortable. I like how high up it is. It feels great, plus it’s an affordable option. At first I got 25.4 mm (1 inch) and thought it was too big, accept it was the correct sizeand I canceled the order before it could be sent,so then I got the smaller 22.2 mm (0.874 inch(s) size and since it was smaller I just had to shim down the hole so that was a mistake the 25.4 diameter was the correct one and the 22.2 was the wrong one. Aside from that installation was easy. Then I put my extender quill stem in bolt the wedge down then put my quill and handlebar in bolted the quill down and it was that simple. I did have to replace my brake and Derailleur cables, and housing. Kind of a pain because if someone wants to do this but knows that the cables have to be replaced they might think it’s too expensive. I didn’t do this immediately, I gave myself some time to think about this, eventually I came to the conclusion that it was in my own best interest to do this upgrade. Besides I did this for a client, and my client was super pleased with the longer quill. The only differences between my clients bike and mine is that the quill I ordered him was all one piece and 10 inches long. Where as I had ordered this extension and a new quill stem plus a 5 inch rise handlebar to replace the factory flat handlebar and stem quill on my aluminum 21 Speed Huffy, the brand of which I never heard of, probably some cheap generic knock off. Anyways after I shimmed the hole, I did have to tighten the Allen wrench bolt so the wedge bolt would stay in place and that seemed to work. I will update this after I have ridden on my bike with this sunlite extension.

Save your back and arms while riding.
Sitting up while riding takes a load off your hands and this works for that purpose. We did have to change out two cables to make them fit, but that's easily done. At our age, we don't need to look like 'Speed Racers' while riding our bikes.

Simply unsafe, design is flawed
This will definitely raise your bars, and doesn't look bad. However, even after correct installation, it will not hold up to any type of aggressive riding. The design simply cannot get as tight as is needed to be able to safely ride with it. I did not notice a problem until I was tugging on the bars on a steep incline. They turned without the wheel, and I was on the ground. If you are placing this on a beach cruiser or a bike you won't stand up on, it might work. I caution anyone on using this product simply for safety concerns. Really wish it worked, now I have to buy a whole new stem.

Almost Perfect...
It does the job. I must admit I did not measure the tube before buying. I took the chance since I am a Prime Member. When I inserted at the top it looked like it would fit so I kept pushing and turning. Finally, I took a hammer and lightly hammered it down to the bottom. This ain't never coming out. I tightened the 6 mm screw with a 9 inch long allen extension I bought for $3 on amazon -- Most probably a one time use. For me, difficulty with inserting the handlebar part because of the shortened length of the cables. After I moved the gears and handlebar break closer to the center, I was able to insert. I wanted to avoid going to the bike shop. All is done and works as advertised. To give 5 stars, I think any attachment that should have a little oil / grease, the seller should provide a small packet of grease. I just bought my used bike and did not have grease yet. I just hope nothing happens inside over time...
