Novel, Innovative and Fantastic value for money.
This product works as advertised. I've had people ask me if the butterfly 'was' alive when they see it flapping around from a distance. It's VERY receptive to taps on the head of the jar, the sides and to thumps and vibrations on my work-desk too. What works:* From a distance, the butterfly looks realistic. It flaps around vigorously, flutters, and flits all around the jar VERY, VERY realistically.* The attention to detail on the butterfly is exhaustive. The overall build quality is sturdy and feels very solid.* The jar is sensitive to taps. Note that it's not overtly sensitive (which would then drive you crazy), but is sensitive enough to ensure it responds to taps and strong vibrations and thumps from your desk.* The original packaging and the setup is as displayed in the product detail page. What 'kinda' works:* The jar gives the trick away and screams out that the butterfly inside is fake.* The wire is visible from about five feet away and is unlike what is depicted in the picture.* The manual and documentation (although unnecessary) are non-existent and you have to keep going back to the packaging to ensure you haven't missed anything important.* One, two and three taps (not necessarily in that order) are meant to make the butterfly flap, flutter and flit around, but it doesn't work like that all the time. I 'personally' like the randomness though.Overall:I loved this product for the novelty that it offers, the price that it comes at and the entertainment (initial at least) that it provides. Note however, that the novelty wears off soon. That being said, it's a great gift for kids and toddlers as long as they don't end up breaking it!

Intriguing. A steal for the price.
I bought this novelty for my three year old son, who, incidentally, is quite the little nature nut. I was rather skeptical of the item despite favorable reviews. However, when I opened the box to inspect it before putting Christmas wrapping on it, I was rather dazzled. Even my husband, who doesn't care a jot for such things found himself intrigued by this butterfly. The movements are so lifelike, as are the sounds of the wings grazing the inside of the jar. The filament to which the butterfly is attached is as close to invisible as one can get. The jar looks just like a Mason jar one might use to catch butterflies in. We have it sitting on our window sill and the butterfly responds to the slightest of movement (someone setting down a plate on the counter near the sill etc.).I have no doubt this will be a conversation piece for everyone who sees it, and perhaps the best thing about the butterfly is that it will sometimes sit in a pause mode with its wings slowly pulsing in and out...just like you would witness in nature when a butterfly lands somewhere. Two words for this product: SUPER COOL. Whether you are looking for a gift for a three year old or a fifty year old, this might just be the perfect thing for that person who already has everything.I can't speak for its durability just yet, as we have only had it for one day, but even if it only lasts a month (as one reviewer complained), it would be well worth the cost. Fantastic!

cute valentines day gift.
I bought this as a valentines gift and this is a very unique gift rather than some chocolates or stuffed animal. The only down side is that it makes this weird buzzing noise when if it flaps its fake wings. Also when it smacks its self against the jar and it gets annoying at times. but its a very cute decoration which is what i really wanted in the end. This is also great for kids, My daughter is too young to understand that things die. She is always catching some sort of frog or lizard and then putting it in a box to keep "forever" without realizing that the things have to eat. I end up having to sneak out and let the captive escape after she goes to sleep. But with this i never have to worry about such a thing.

My Butterfly Delights
Butterfly in a Glass Jar - Pink MorphoI recently bought one of the My Butterfly collection butterflies for a friend's children, aged 8 and 11. I presented it to them at a restaurant as if I had caught it in the jar on the way. I put it on the table, tapped it a few times, at which point it started fluttering around the jar. They immediately started playing with it and didn't stop for the duration of the lunch. Before leaving the restaurant they were (politely) discussing who would carry it to the car, deciding in the end to share the duty by exchanging it half way across the parking lot. Later that day I received an email from my friend, telling me that the children had re-arranged their entire playroom with the Butterfly as the center piece. Moreover the 11-year old had sat down with it, tried tapping it in different ways, and figured out what each tap did. This is a wonderful gift for children, delighting them with its immediate play value. It's realistic movement, colourful display, and capricious behaviour is bound to hold their interest for a long time. I can only hope the inventor creates more 'butterfly-like' versions in addition to the 4 already available.Kimron

Perfect Wedding Centerpieces
This little gadget brings so much awe and happiness. The quality was beyond what I could have expected. Not only was the jar itself well-made, but the little guy worked so well I half thought (for a brief second) that maybe they actually sent me a real butterfly in the mail! As crazy as that sounds, the movements are just so life-like and it responds to motion and touch in a way the real animal would, you can't help but pause.I was maid-of-honor for my best friend and she had a outdoorsy-farm themed wedding. We bought these for all the tables at the wedding and had them be a part of the centerpiece. At the end of the night, the guests were asked to lift their plates and underneath one at each table was a little ticket and that person could take home the butterfly as a gift. They loved it! Ooos and Ahhs everywhere.
