Versatile, strong product with design issues
I bought this to use not a as a bike lock, but a luggage lock. I spent two months abroad during which time I was living in hostels and used public transportation in a city with known crime. With that in mind, and knowing that the hostel (out of 3 available, the one with the best ratings) had reports of people just walking off with someone else's luggage, I purchased this bike lock. I was able to actually sleep at night with my luggage locked to my bed, and leave the hostel during the day without wondering if I'd come back to an empty room. That being said, I agree with another reviewer who said that if someone wants to steal it (bike or luggage) it'll happen.PROS*Sturdy, well-built (especially the combination part, it does not feel as though it could be easily broken)*Sense of security (though my room mates thought I was a crazy American)*Length allowed me to strap two large suitcases and a camera case to a bed*Can be used to lock up almost anything and comes with a special piece that locks around the bike itselfCONS*Heavy (but at least you know your item is protected)*Resetting the combination is too easy, so I worried that someone would be able to either reset it and run off with my luggage or reset it so I couldn't get my luggage*Item coiled so tightly I had a hell of a time trying to stretch out the kinks to wrap it around my luggage...especially when pulled taut, I had to be careful to either not let it snap back, or duck to avoid getting taken out when it recoiled. This is a heavy item, so I didn't take lightly to the thought of being smacked in the face by it.Overall, I am pleased with this purchase and the versatility of the item. It was a great deal and I'll recommend it to anyone else planning a hostel stay or a bike purchase.ETA: Fall 2011 the lock had been in climate controlled storage for 2 years and after removing it to use for my bike, I realized it had seized up. WD-40 won't cure it, so the lock was tossed. This seems to be a design flaw with this model, and many have had it occur while the bike is locked (luckily, mine seized while open and not attached to anything). Buyer beware!

Very good lock, mount needs some tweaking
I've had this lock for a few weeks now, and I really like it. The large dials are nice and the whole thing feels high quality, and its nice that you can set your own combo. The coil is a little bit thicker than my old lock, which possibly makes it a bit more secure, although I wouldn't trust this lock (or any coil lock for that matter) in a place with high crime or where it would be left out for a long time. The mount is a nice extra feature, I had a bit of trouble getting it on my bike (had to pull out the seat post) and then the adapters were either too loose or too small, so I ended up putting a loose one on and tightening it down as much as I could, it holds pretty well, but does move around a little bit during a ride. Also, the screw that tightens the mount sticks out at the front of the mount, so when I put it on my seat post it would sometimes scrape against my leg as I was riding. A bit annoying. It is very convenient, though.

Good solid lock
I've purchased one of these for all our bikes which we use mostly down the beach. It seems to hold up to the weather and the numbers still turn easily, but I did have one issue a couple of years ago when the numbers freezed up. I just bought another one this time because I lost the last one, I think it fell out of my basket. I feel safe when using this lock to lock up my bike, but I have had to hack saw through one of these in the past when it did freeze up, and it took me all of 10 minutes. This lock is good, but a steel bar lock would be the best, but it's just not as flexable and this lock stretches enough to lock up 3 bikes (about 5') to a bar and if you lock up just the tires, then it'll lock more bikes.

Quality, Affordable Lock for 1 or 2 bikes
This lock is very solidly constructed. It's hefty and strong, with dials that rotate very easily. Changing the passcode is very easy, despite what some previous reviewers say - I managed to set it to a custom combination in around 30 seconds, no problem. My fiancee and I go for a lot of bike rides together, and this lock can easily handle securing both of our bikes - even if there's no bike rack and we have to get creative about how to lock them up (around a tree, for example). If you are locking up three or more bikes, then this may not be big enough - unless you plan on always having access to a bike rack. The price is right, and this is a quality product - if it meets your requirements then I doubt you will be disappointed!

Good lock - Iffy mount
The lock is great. But the mount is kind of iffy. The tubes on my mountain bike are fat, so there's only one spot I can mount this, right below the seat. That doesn't leave much room for the mount. Because of the shape of the lock, I can't mount it too high, because it will hit the top tube. The other problem with the mount is that the red release button activates a single round pin in the center of the bracket (can't see it in the pictures). That pin is really thin and I doubt it will hold up very long.So when the bracket eventually breaks (just a matter of time), I'll just have to wind the lock around the top tube like every other lock I've owned. No big deal.

A++ grade, quality cable lock with 10k possible combinations
First of all, I am a hardcore biker in NYC. And by living in NYC, I know how often the bikes get stolen. So, a durable cable lock is a must for me. I was looking for a good, reliable and cheap cable lock for my bikes that I can use it without keys (so that I don't have to worry about loosing keys).I began my search from Wal-Mart, and found that a thick cable locks with keys start around 15 bucks, but I didnt found them extremely reliable, so I went to many well known sports stores, but it was the similar kind of situation there as well. Finally, while searching online, when I glanced over this lock, with 4.5 out of 5 stars review, thought to give it a try.And I must say, it hasn't disappointed me at all. This lock is an extremely high quality, logically made, durable and most importantly CHEAP. You are paying very little for what you get.Two thumbs up for both Amazon as well as Avenir. Might end up buying more of these.
