Excellent wide angle lens for F717
I have used this lens with my DSC-F717 for years and it is a great complement for that camera. It is big, but I think that is why the distortion is low. You do need an external flash to overcome the partial blocking of the pop-up.It is great for a variety of different shots: Cars, indoors, architecture, boats, landscapes, etc.I do not notice any color or fuzziness issues. You set the camera so it has no zoom capability (conversion lens mode in the case of a Sony camera). Why zoom if you are trying to get a wide angle, they work against each other. The image is out of focus once you start to zoom.I have not seen any excessive dust or fingerprint accumulation as some have suggested.I highly recommend it. For clarification, I have a 52-58 adapter ring for my rig, the 58 for the camera side. The lens part # is the MHG07, the -7A comes with an adapter ring, 37-52 I think.

Heavy
To heavy for small cameras

To note, purchased this to go with the Sony ...
To note, purchased this to go with the Sony DSCS70 - requires purchases of the Sony VAD-S70 45mm to 52mm Adaptor Ring. For the lens to work the camera needs to be in the 'macro mode' (flower icon) with zoom fully out or pictures will be blurry. Works for wider angle shots as one would assume but can only be placed as close up as 5" (perhaps a bit less) from a subject as well. Have only used it a few times as bought it mainly for Sunrise and Sunset and Storm photos but haven't had much chance to get any since purchasing the camera as weather has not been conducive for colorful sunrises and sets nor have there been any photogenic storms. The pictures that did come out were sharp though and having purchased this used it was worth getting.

Too clumsy
It seemed too large for the camera and made it awkward to use. It blocked the flash completely and viewfinder partially.

No need to step back to get great landscapes
Although it makes the already big Mavica CD500 bigger, it's well worth the added bulk by allowing you to take more of the landscape and making your rooms look bigger. The bad part is that it takes some time to screw on and change the setting to ON on "Conversion Lens". You will also need an external flash to use it in dark places because the lens blocks the flash and limits the F aperture to about 4 (less light reaches the sensors). Remember to buy the VAD-S70 ring adaptor (52mm). If you have a CD-500, I strongly recommend it, it's easy to use and the camera will reward you with even better photos.

A More Thorough Review.
Got this used and put it through its paces. I was shocked when I felt just how large and heavy it is. It adds almost twice as much weight on my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200. The lens drops below the bottom of the body as well. But I immediately saw how they built the optics, which was to minimize the typical fisheye distortion that shows when adding these lenses on cameras. I didn't see the typical edge-bending that I always saw with wide angle converters. Trees and buildings seemed almost dead-on straight for a change. And the sharp optics gave the right amount of added width that I need with such a bridge camera, with a 25mm equivalent lens. It's meant as a wide angle adapter but doesn't have zoom-through optics. After a the shortest period of zooming, the image will go completely pastel soft. The lens makes me want to use it as a paper weight when not screwed onto the camera. The front looks so much like a scratch magnet, but there is no thread to add any filter (just stating facts - a filter would add that much more weight in any case). And the optics are definitely a dust and smudge magnet. The front just begs for dust bunny companionship, and the rear is very concave, which eliminates the fisheye effect. Both front and rear caps were included, which is a plus (and the big SONY name on the front does look nice). Keep a lens cloth nearby at all times. The weight and dust issue and the fact that it takes a little while to screw this on, are my reasons for docking a star. I wish the mount was bayonet, but which bayonet style to use? I'm concerned that carrying the camera may rub such a large lens and cause it to loosen and unscrew. It's not perfect. If it were designed lighter, would the lens be able to still eliminate fisheye distortion? I'm not an engineer or lens builder so I can't tell whether I'm unfairly reviewing. But for others who are drooling to impress, you'll get comments from people about how big this is. Some may want the lens because it gives such small cameras more beef and possibly, more camera-cred. I wanted my camera for its light weight and ability to be more inconspicuous. This Sony lens makes people want to stare at it. I might have gotten a lighter lens, but I'll keep this. It's bulky enough that you'll have to find a place to store when removing, but always remember about the optical real estate you may expose to scratches. At least put the lens caps on when you store it, no matter how short a period. And try to mount the lens without dropping it.
