Overlord, Vol. 13 (light novel): The Paladin of the Sacred Kingdom Part II (Overlord, 13)

Good story, already invested in the series, love the characters. Now with that out of the way, for the love of all that is holy, Get. A. New. Translator! I don't know which joker has been translating the series, but it started out great, and has since taken a STEEP nose dive in quality. Why didn't you guys just get the same people who translated the anime adaptation to translate the books? Why did the series start out mimicking the dialog and style of the anime, only for the writing to suddenly shift partway into the series?You could have at the very least emulated their dialog and translated terms and phrases. As it is now, this feels like a completely different story despite being about the same characters from the anime. The writing overall but especially the dialog is stunted, childish, repetitive, and above all, sloppy and nonsensical enough times that I have to "remind" how much I love the series and all the characters. It's gotten to the point where I've started ignoring the book's attempts to tell a story and am now imagining events on my own, the way the anime would have portrayed these scenes.And I want to be clear, this is not me throwing shade at the original author and creator, but rather the absolute imbecile whose been translating the series. It feels like they handed the story off to another translator part of the way through the series, one who didn't bother looking at all the other translations and adaptations in order to make the overall presentation of the series cohesive. That or the translator is the same throughout the series, but the only mimicked the anime adaptation until they felt they were confident enough to give the translation their own spin, which is fine, but you you're going to attempt to fix something that isn't broken, you should at the very least give us a translation of equal quality to the anime, not.... Whatever this is.It almost seems like I'm reading a rough draft of the translation, not a polished final product they expected people to pay money for. This is hot garbage as it is now, and I would refund this book if I could. It gets three stars only because I don't wanna disrespect the author due to the inadequacy of the fools over at at Yen-Press or whatever company is translating these books, who despite having taken almost an entire year almost to get this "digital translation" out, for some reason couldn't use all that extra time to make sure they properly do what little work they've been hired for. Nothing that takes this long should be so poor in quality.

So the story is great! Art is beautiful! But wow, more editing fails and translation fails than any other book. The others were easy to handle. But this is like someone fairly new to the process, doing a free translation for a webnovel... I took a picture for an example.I dropped 2 stars for the 2 problems. This book was also delayed... Maybe they didn't have access to printing but Quality over Quantity. I doubt they would lose out on much money overall. But maybe this is the book better read online than with buying...Side note:It's been so long though that I had to stop reading to re-read the part 1 build up. I remember getting super hyped for this book!

A great read overall and nice continuation of the sacred kingdom arc. I really enjoyed the authors writing style, where he goes to great lengths to describe a person or an event, and this applies even to minor characters who make brief appearances. It lends a good amount of depth to the world and it’s inhabitants.Minor downside, I continue to think that the translation feels a little forced - especially on a few key terms that appear frequently. Now that the anime even adopts the term “Sorcerer King”, it feels jarring to always read “King of Darkness”. Terms like “weakness is wickedness” feels wrong to a native English speaker. The alternative “weakness is a sin” found on fan wikis feel far more natural.Still, for fans of the series (what else would you be if you’re reading about the 13th volume), this is a must read.

Interesting. A glitch in the Matrix as Shizu repeats King of Darkness twice. Reality check: Satoru Suzuki is still strapped to his VR chair where his physical body is undergoing decay.Cheered for the King of Darkness countless times in this volume but somehow it still felt empty. Millions of terabytes of memory devoted to keeping the simulation going for only a handful of players like Suzuki to give the impression of reality. A grand experiment? What happens to the game Yggraeessill in the real world.

I really enjoy how each book wraps up some conflicts/projects while alluding to other things going on elsewhere. This book wraps up the primary conflict from the previous book, yet leaves many pieces about what can and is still building.

Honestly. It dragged a lot in so many places. Endless conversations that just circled around the theme, "Ainz is great!" Or, "we're doomed!" Made it such a drag to read. I think I honestly skipped out on half of the dialogue and description and didn't really miss much of anything. Just straight filler to get a word count goal it seemed like.Not the worst volume atleast but if it continues like this the next volume will be the last one I purchase.

This, the 13th installment is typical in style and substance - it’s everything you’ve come to expect, except perhaps the focus having pulled away from the series protagonist. Even then, this is not unprecedented.The only problem I have with the boom is the feeling that is was rushed to print. Several editing errors, one of which lead me to re-read a passage several times.Never the less, I look forward to the next arc, perhaps returning to Carne village? What does one do with a Goblin Army?

I absolutely love Overlord. I started off years ago with the anime and then I binge read the Web Novel and then I read the Light Novel and now I’m going to buy them all on hardcover soon since they’re beautiful and maybe more sales will motivate them to hire an adequate translator. Apparently the guy that translated most of the volumes quit which is why it changes from the Sorcerer King to the King of Darkness etc.

I Enjoyed every minute, the digital pages turned themselves. This is my favourite so far!The use of perspective in this book really conveyed thoughts and feelings well.

Just an awesome book re read it once again and super happy. What an amazing series this is to read.

O livro é ótimo, a história se desenvolve bem, como os demais livros anteriores. Vale a pena comprar para ler mais vezes. O único problema que tive foi com a compra antecipada que, mesmo depois de oficialmente lançado o livro e disponível para compra direta na Amazon, meu pedido demorou mais de semana para ser postado. Sinceramente achei um descaso com quem comprou antecipado. Mas, no fim chegou tudo certo e a leitura valeu o esforço.

Story and content wise, I have no problem, but the translation leaves much to be desired. I am attaching a picture which highlights a sentence which is supposed to be the most impact worthy dialogue reduced to absolute juvenile garbage. I do hope that Yen Press chooses their translators with better vetting process.
