Now covered in a new fabric that's great
This is my first Amazon review ever, although I have purchased many, many cat products. I was hesitant to buy this because of reviews here so I felt the need to update others' information. The boxes are now covered in a new fabric which has a ridged surface, similar to a corduroy. I wish my cat wouldn't use this as a scratcher - but I let her because I did buy it for her enjoyment - and while the fabric does have hundreds of tiny pulled loops now after six months of scratching, it still looks good because they blend in with the texture and it doesn't expose the brown surface underneath. We have several types of cat trees, and this is the only one she can climb up like a tree. I can see that it really gives her a workout. And putting treats inside each level keeps her busy for a while. I can nest the boxes inside each other and hide it in a closet so she's excited when I bring it out again. It seemed really expensive to me but not now. It was worth the price.

A cat tower both Mr Tux and I can love.
Mr Tux thinks this is the best thing since canned cat food. He loves to fly up the side and wait up top for me to toss a toy to him. It's a great perch for birdie watching (bird feeder on the balcony) and he can stretch and scratch on the sides. He will dive down through the layers chasing a toy that dropped. It is very sturdy so it doesn't wobble and scare him even when he launches himself at the middle of tower.I like it because it has a refined look to it. Most cat towers are ugly beyond words, but Mr Tux was going to be climbing the drapes if he didn't have something else he could climb on. Clearly someone with a design background had a hand in making this. The colors are stylish and it has a relatively small foot print. Since it has to sit in the living room of my tiny condo, I wanted something that wouldnt feel terribly out of place. And I like that the boxes nest, so if I wanted to store it for a party, I could easily pack it up and stash it in the bedroom. So I am happy too! We've had it for about 4 months and so far the fabric is holding up fine. I rotate the side facing the front occasionally just to even out the wear and tear. I can see that fabric on one corner of the white box is looking a little more pulled, but we love it so much, it's not that big a deal.UPDATEHad to reduce my score from a 5 to a 4.Well Mr Tux grew up and the top of the tower wasn't up to it. Bit by bit I had to remove the top boxes, because when he raced up tot the top, he would pull the top box off and both would come tumbling down. Since these are made of wood, I was worried he would get badly hurt. I was saddened, because it's less attractive and he can't sit as high. But his weight is too much for the 2 inch nesting to hold. We are down to the bottom 3 boxes now. I should note Tux is a big boy -- about 14 lbs. Also - the fabric on the lower towers that he still climbs regularly is doing fine even after a couple of years of regular wear.

Pictures DO NOT Match Actual Colors
Very disappointed in the colors. As expensive as this product is, the pictures are very deceiving. The fabric is nowhere near as bright. The only one that matches the picture is the brown box. The other colors are white, light periwinkle, a gross yellow-green and the top box is more raw sienna than orange. I would also warn anyone considering buying this that it is very large so check your measurements. My kitten is still trying to figure it out but prefers to stay in the lower boxes right now, the top ones seem to scare her being that high up but she may adjust as she gets bigger. It feels sturdy enough but I really hate the colors.

Nice design, but too much $$$ for the quality
Pros:- Looks good (huge bonus for a cat tree)- Cat likes it for playing and lounging (and scratching!)- Stable and functional - holes are the right sizes, etc.- Love that it can be reconfigured, split into two parts, or nested for transportCons:- Fabric really shows the claw marks.- As others have mentioned, the finishes on the inside are poor. And the inside is very visible through the holes!I could totally live with the cons given the pros, but not for almost $300! I should love this thing, but instead I keep looking at it going, yikes, we paid $300 for that!

Good idea / cats like it / poorly made
+ The cats enjoy it, even though they haven't figured out that they can travel from box to box instead of just jumping to a particular box from the outside.+ It looks good from 10 feet away. However, this product should either be cheaper or better made. We've had it for 2 weeks, and we've noticed these issus:- The fabric is not terribly scratch-proof, and threads are already coming loose.- The interior of the cubes is an unfinished cardboard-like material. This pretty much means I won't take photographs of the cats in this thing.- The colors are already being bleached by the sun- No attempt was made to hide where the fabric is stapled. Unless you stick the tower in the corner, you're going to see staples.- The fabric bunches up, making it tough to remove cat hair.

Huge hit with my kitten!
I got this after returning a tree that had to be assembled. It had come in uncountable pieces with almost non-existent directions. Plus, it was cheaply constructed! Four hours later, it went back in the box. This one was only @ $20 more and is very well constructed out of wood. It was easy to get out of the box and the pieces stack securely and easily. I was leary of the fabric but it is very sturdy as well. My 7 wk old kitten loves it and to my surprise, she climbed all the way to the top. The problem was that she was afraid to come down. I took the top two boxes off and put them to the side. Now she can get to the top of the blue one and hop down onto the smaller ones. When she is a "big girl" I'll stack them back up. I am putting a shelf on the wall above the top so that she can hop onto that as well. This is most definitely worth the money!
