I just love this baby boy! I've been using it for almost a year now, and really, it is - hands down - the best external storage I've ever had.I take it everywhere I go, it's fast, it's small, it fits in my pocket, it's got a good amount of data space, and did I mention it's FAST? Man, it's fast...

This is the new model where SanDisk claimed to have beefed up the connector socket. I've been using it for a month now and it works flawlessly - super thin and light with speedy performance. I was initially leery about this product as I had bought two of them last year (the 500 model) and the socket where the USB connector plugs into broke within weeks on both of them. This new 510 model seems to be much sturdier - so far.

Shipped fast and in great condition. I have the SanDisk Extreme 500 so l am already a fan! But it works great and love the ruggedized features for taking along when I am out shooting with my DSLR!

Let start by saying that this drive writes and reads at VERY fast speeds. Its also compact and all in all a well designed product.Unfortunately the drive stopped being read by ANY of my computers after about 2 months of use. I have tried it on my PCs and Macs, nothing is reading it. I also tried multiple USB 3 cables. The port on the drive shows no physical damage or bending.

So the SSD part of this might be rugged, but the drive is not. As I've discovered by searching online, this port on the back of the drive fell off making this drive useless. With very little effort SanDisk has offered to RMA the device (which likely means they are aware that this is a major problem), which would normally be nice if I actually hadn't used it for anything. But given that the sole purpose of getting a rugged SSD was to store photos and other important keepsakes, the data is more important to me than the drive itself. SanDisk only offered 3rd party data recovery options to get the data off at my expense, which cost way more than the drive itself. Unlike the Extreme 500, SanDisk will not allow me to take this apart to get the data off of it and still honor the warranty.

I bought the SanDisk Extreme 510 Portable SSD 480GB to test my current migration program from revolving HDs to SSDs for my Hi Fi system.It's connected to a MacMini and PrismSound DAC to amps and speakers. The SSD allows me to play many bit rates and sampling rates. With appropriate software I can store and play FLAC (lossless) compressed files - which are expanded on the fly - letting me store much more music per SSD. With a few SanDisc SSDs I can plug-n-play using a portable SSD for each genre of music I like. So far the testing has been successful, no hickups at all.

Works great. I hooked it up to my iMac and made this my boot drive and now boot times have decreased as have load times.

Lightweight, rugged, super fast, and welldesigned. You can't go wrong with it. I use it in my Tesla Model 3, partitioned in half for music and Dashcam/Sentry, and it works flawlessly for both tasks.

It's great if you need speed and portability, and it provides the added bonus of being extremely well built. I use it to run virtual machines through USB 3.0, and it works great, faster than a local magnetic hard disk.I haven't tried the included encryption software, so I cannot comment on that.
