EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY
I purchased this humidifier for my infant grandson's bedroom. We have oil forced air heat and add living in the northeast where the winters are cold and dry and you have the perfect conditions for low humidity levels in our home. This model is on the large side but it is very sturdy and easy to use. I like that it can be used for either a cool mist or a warm mist. It monitors the humidity of the room and automatically turns it self on and off to keep the room at the desired humidity level. I have a seperate humidity monitor in the room to check the levels and this humidifier is right on the mark. Filling the tank is a bit awkward and heavy when filled to the max and would be easier if the manufacturer would design a way to fill it from the top instead of having to remove the canister and turning it upside down to fill. I have not experienced any white powder residue as some have stated. I just followed the directions and all is working perfectly. I would highly recommend this product.

Trouble and hassle!
These things are a mess! We, unfortunately, bought three of them, two 7142s and a 7145. The 7145 stopped working shortly after the 3-year warranty expired (conveniently), so it's going to the landfill. On one of the 7142s, the fine mesh at the bottom of the plastic micro-bead canister sprung a leak, so the thousands of micro-beads went all over the inside of the tank; washing them out was a big hassle. So, if this keeps happening, one is forced to buy a new canister every so often, on top of packages of micro-beads which are supposed to be replaced every 3 months. So this Rube Goldberg contraption is just not worth the trouble. I've ordered a Vornado evaporative unit which is rated much higher than these Air-O-Swiss (Boneco) disasters!

Dissapointed
I order from Amazon regularly and have always been more than satisfied with all my purchases until now. The humidifier is a big disappointment. It is difficult to refill and does not even last the night thru. It has a regulator that is suppose to keep the percentage steady but it does not do it. I wish I had purchased a different kind.

Competent but Rigid. Typical Swiss.
This humidifier has many advantages, including high output, large tank, and quiet operation. Unlike others, I find the tank convenient to fill. It sits securely upside down under my bathtub spout and fills in seconds. Then it's easy to place back in the unit. Of course it's heavy; it's a two gallon tank.It needs to be well off the floor, like the manual says. I had it on the floor, where it hardly wet the carpet at all. But the humidity reading quickly rose above 60%, making the automatic settings useless. Two feet off the floor it reads 33%. (Two nearby meters show 45% and 44%.) So the automatic settings are still useless. The Automatic and Sleep modes are too rigid. They vary the output quantity as needed, which would be useful if the humidity reading were accurate, or if the humidity target in the automatic modes could be changed. As it is, it might just as well be set on manual and high. And the Sleep mode is limited to 60% humidity and 6 hours. If you sleep 8 hours, or want a little more or less moisture, tough luck. Change the target humidity in either mode and it switches to full manual settings.Every time the machine is turned on, it comes up in Automatic. If you want the heater turned off (and it doesn't do much for me except eat electricity; YMMV), or have it set up just the way you want in manual mode, you'll have to reenter those settings every time.So if you want a humidifier that holds a lot of water, and are willing to let it run, this is your baby. If you want it to operate automatically, not so much.

Great product
I purchased this humidifier about a month ago. It works fine, with just a little white dust. My apartment is about 1000 sq, feet, so I found that I needed two in order to maintain the humidity level I wanted. It's very quiet too. One thing I noticed is that the humidity reading on the machine is not accurate most of the time. It's off about ten points, so you might want to invest in a separate instrument to measure your humidity level.

Best Boneco ever built
I keep buying this one because it will last at least 3 years, as opposed to most humidifiers that last only one or two years. It also produces the most vapor and has the best features/controls. The reervoir is a bit heavy to handle when it is full (holds a gallon and a half) but you don't have to fill it all the way.I typically do fill it up, run it at 40% on medium or full output and once it has brought up the humidity, I only fill it once a day.

Product Works But.....
The product works the following experience spoiled it for me. My review is more a reflection on the seller than on the product1. The order took a long time to ship2. The box was packaged shabbily and there was a cleaning item which was promised on the box which was missing. Though the product worked as advertised3. The Product looked used. It was wet from inside. I was led to believe that this was a brand new product.I would caution anyone to beware of buying anything from this seller.

Poor instrumentation
There are obvious quality control issues with this manufacture. The humidity sensor on the machine concistently reads10 or more percentage points lower than two other humidistats in the room as well as the much cheaper humidifier previously used in the room.
