Love this fireplace! I have a space in my basement I have been wanting to put a fireplace since we built our house 10 yrs ago. It's a perfect little spot under the stairs facing our family room and it backs to a crawl space. We haven't put one in before now because I wanted something real looking and a gas fireplace would have been very expensive and difficult to ventilate where I wanted it. These electric fireplaces have come a long way in 10 yrs and this one looks perfect!! We cut a hole in the wall, set this in - secured it and done!! Going to do some nice tile and trim around it next weekend. The flames look pretty real, the heat is great (about a 350 sq ft room), and remote works like a charm. There are fake doors on the front with little knobs that don't actually open - but adds to the charm. You can adjust the brightness and amount of flame "flickers", the brightness of the red in the log, and the heat. No thermostat setting - so far seems you can adjust how hot the air is with a dial on the unit itself and it will randomly turn off and on again. Some of the pics make it look like the background is a flat bright orange, but that's not how it looks in person at all. I think what they have inside is something rolling with orange light inside of it so as it rolls it projects the lights up the back of the fireplace to look like little flickers. Pretty cool. The fan noise on a scale of 1-10 was probably a 2 before we set it in place. Now that it's in the wall it's probably a 1 if even that. Our basement gets really cold in winter so can see this making the whole house warmer as the heat rises. I wouldn't do what we did and set it in a wall unless you know what you are doing. Behind the wall is all open to a crawl space and there's an outlet inside there just for the fireplace. All the heat comes out the front of this unit from the small black grate right above the glass. That's the only place that kinda gets hot and it's on the front of the unit. Everything else either gets a little warm or none at all. The top part that touches the wall doesn't get any warmer than a metal floor register when the heat is on. The bottom, sides and top don't get hot at all. When you use the remote the fireplace beeps to let you know it got the signal. The other reviewer said the remote seems cheap - which it does but it's not like we'll use it a ton. If it stops working I will update review. For now works perfect. You can spend over $1,000 for one of these babies, but for the price I would absolutely buy this one again. My seven year old said after we put it in "I think a fireplace makes a place feel Home-ier". Money well spent!!********UPDATE******* The instruction manual recommends it be on it's own breaker. We tried it on it's own outlet but nt it's own breaker and it tripped the breaker about the 3rd or 4th time we used it. Maybe it's because we turned it to the hottest setting since we got it - but when it tripped it killed out computer. My husband will be installing it on it's own breaker but for the average person don't run electric stuff unless you know what you are doing! This unit needs it's own circuit breaker.**********************

Better than expected
I bought this unit to fix a mistake the previous homeowner made. When I bought my house the previous homeowner decided to take out the fireplace and put an entertainment center in. They basically cut a big gaping hole and put a projection TV where the fireplace used to be. Now I live in CA and we are super anal with out burn days and using real fireplaces. So initially I planned to put an insert in. I have the original gas piping so it would just be a issue of fabricating and reframing. But to do this would be about 3k-4k to get everything done, permitted and looking good. So in the meantime I was trying to think of a quick fix. Since I have a real TV and not a relic from 1995. I decided to pull the TV out and replace the gap with the AKDY electric insert (see photos).Besides looking beautiful and having multiple options. The heat actually works good and I got the fireplace on a "summer sale" for less than $200. The materials to frame it out were less than $100. So for about 10% of the cost of a gas insert. I was able to fix an eyesore.I couldn't be happier with it and I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a well built quality electric fireplace.

Used it twice and now it won’t work
We bought this fireplace insert to replace one in our fifth wheel… We received in January installed it in June before the camping season...We never needed to use it this summer and turned it One morning in late august.… We were camping Labor Day weekend and tried to turn it on one morning and it would not come on… Husband tried to troubleshoot it but there is no fuses in it to replace… We are now doing some fall camping which is why I wanted the fireplace and now it does not work very very unhappy

Love at first, then big disappointment
I started with five stars but it's really down to two now--I don't like this product anymore. I bought this to copy an Ikea hack where this fireplace was put on a bottom shelf in an Ikea bookcase on a wall of bookcases. All I got was a fireplace so I called customer service to inquire about the remote and an instruction booklet or sheet. They sent the tiny remote in an envelope right away, but there are no instruction sheets available for this product. The rep suggested I make my own diagram for where is the On/Off and other buttons. How hard would it be for this company to pack a one-sheet in their boxes, or to post online somewhere? This firebox warms my space well and I like the brick effect. I like this electric firebox more than any I've seen, and I think I saw them all, in all price ranges. BUT I am very disappointed that after a few times of nice quiet "fires," I now have a firebox that sounds like 1-2 popsicle sticks on the spokes of a bicycle every time it is "on." It's loud and annoying, and no setting reduces the noise. Ambience went to zero. I wish I had kept the shipping box as I would return this and get another.

Almost Perfect.
Very nice fireplace insert. Overall size and rounded front view are excellent. I placed this in an existing fireplace mantel with ease. Just simply unbox and plug in. Measurements listed are slightly smaller than stated, by a few inches all around, will have to redo my tile trim to fit better and close gaps. I am using in a finished basement room 16 x 30 and keeps heated nicely at the medium setting. Remote control operates settings, however, you must turn the unit on manually. All functions do work and it will shut down automatically depending on your timer setting. Read the manual to operated remote control, it is confusing at first. Flames are bright and adjustable, but the overall effect is disappointing. The back screen has a pattern they follow which can be seen and takes away from realistic effect. My only complaint. I have a cheaper unit that looks more "real" with the flames. Otherwise, I am satisfied with the unit, very quiet, attractive and does the job heating the room. Front is not glass, it is plastic, careful cleaning or will scratch. Body is black metal. It is light weight to take from box and install.
