Yes they will plug into any mini plug recepticle. Sound great!

I look for thick cords for my children for headphones. His school is asking for ear buds. How would these work for a fourth grader??

I'm not really sure. I do not like ear buds at all. The oblong shape does not work for me. These fit my ears nicely.
