Safety for Late Night Arrivals
Our original Battery Back-Up System was installed at the same time as the new garage door and opener over 8 years ago. It has worked flawlessly until this past week when the red light and beep let me know it was time to replace the batteries. The cost of the batteries plus time to rewire them (new batteries do not have the same type connectors) overshadow the cost of an entire new unit. PLUS, with a new unit, you are assured all new electronics. Nothing more frustrating (and somewhat costly) than installing new batteries and then finding out that something deep inside the electronics package has gone awry and you are now going to have to replace the whole unit anyway! Not quite as simple as replacing the flashlight batteries and finding the bulb has burned out, although I'll bet we've all been down that route at one time or the other and it's frustrating! It's comforting to know that when my spouse arrived home from work late at night, the door would always open, no matter the weather or electrical issues we might have due to storms or whatever. She could drive into the garage without worry and close the door behind her before exiting her car, in the safety and security of the garage, We live in a nice area but I am a security conscious person who believes in leaving little to chance. Plus, I don't need to worry about anyone popping the emergency release by a popular method of breaking into garages, as with the battery backup, the pull cord can be removed. (I do keep a hook similar to a heavy coat hanger in the garage "just in case."Great pricing from Amazon, much better than eBay and free shipping too.

DISAPPOINTED WITH LIGHTS
I purchased 2 kits, my 3rd overall, for my new home. The openers are great, they are quiet and work good. Unfortunately the wireless lights are junk. My 1st opener worked flawlessly, no so much on 2 and 3. The wireless lights are intermit at best. Sometimes they come on and most times they do not. I called the company and they were very helpful and said I needed to replace the wall mounted switches. They sent me 2 updated switch and I replaced them and the problem still persists. I called back and the representative told me the LED light bulbs I was using were the problem so I installed incandescent bulbs, the problem still persist so I just gave up on the lights and I turn my garage light on each time I go in the garage.I also had one of the 2 garage door locks failed after a month of use. I called customer service and they immediately sent me a replacement lock.SUMMARY: I love the garage door opener but I am completely disappointed with not having lights that work correctly.

Buy now-not later
Buy this now - because when you come home to a house without power and you're sitting outside your garage door-it's too late. Oh sure, you can order it afterwards, maybe you'll even appreciate it more because you can "remember the time we had to go through the house, manually open the garage door and then manually lower it?" Super easy to install - and does what it promises. It operates your garage door opener and the light when the power is out. It will sit there silently charging until you ask it to do its job.Mine arrived and wouldn't work. Opened up the unit and discovered the fuse had come loose during shipping. I snapped it into place and works as promised. Guys - take care of your wives - give them a battery back-up for the garage door.Unless your garage is full of stuff and you park in the driveway. . . that's another story!

We bought this "just in case". Never thought we'd need it 24 hours after installing the new garage.
We were having a Liftmaster Elite 8500 installed with our new garage door, so I ordered this backup battery system online ahead of the installation (sold through 365 Garage Door Parts; their shipping and support was excellent). Our area typically experiences large storms during the spring that often knock out the power, sometimes for days. So, this option was one of the main reasons we went with Liftmaster. After installing the unit on the wall perpendicular to the opener it took a couple of hours for the light to register that the battery was fully charged. It wasn't even a full 24 hours later that our area experienced a 6 hour blackout and this little unit worked like a charm; it's a fantastic system that has already made a big impact.

Simple to Install--Simply Plug Into Compatible LiftMaster Motor Unit
Save yourself some $$$. If contractor installs a compatible LiftMaster, in my case an Elite 8500C with MyQ Internet Gateway, you can buy the battery pack from Amazon and simply plug it into the motor unit. That's what I did. Connectors are pre-wired.Takes 1-2 days to fully charge. No need to plug into A/C receptacle. Only replaceable part is the batteries and expected to last 3-5 years. Sounds about right.Genuine unit. Not a knockoff.PS With two garage doors, I bought only 1 battery back-up unit connected to my wife's side. Your choice to buy two

Plently strong to lift my double garage door
Plenty strong to lift my 18' wide double door when the power goes out so that I can move my portable generator out of the garage. I learned that I needed this backup the hard way during a power outage when I couldn't get the door up high enough to get the cars out of the garage that were blocking in the generator.I paid for this product and wasn't compensated in any way for this review. Take that, pesky power company outages
Eliminates the pain when the power goes out and you don't want to mess with the emergency release mechanism. It's basically just a UPS battery and easily connects with one cable to the LiftMaster garage door opener. Just like any battery of this type, make sure you cycle it periodically to prolong the life (or that it has a good charge when you need it). Just unplug the AC power from the opener and run it off of the backup a day or so (8-10 cycles, the rated use). Shop around for replacement batteries (they're the same used in computer UPS backups) and they're readily available--it's just the shipping weight that can you get you.

Tested great when I unplugged the opener's power
Tested great when I unplugged the opener's power. Simple design and straight forward plug into Liftmaster unit - have not had to use it yet in a real power failure but it's always charged and ready to go. Dropped a star as the battery replacement in the future will be cumbersome, not designed well in that regard.
