The AKR01 Earphones from Astell&Kern are in-ear earphones that are a collaborative design between Astell&Kern and Final Audio Design. The earphones feature balanced armature drivers coupled with Final Audio Design's Balancing Air Movement technology that controls internal air flow to prevent sonic leakage for natural sound reproduction. The drivers are housed in stainless-steel housing designed to reduce mid- and high-range frequencies in order to reduce distortion. The earphones' flat cable helps reduce tangles while suppressing touch noise. 3 pairs of high-sound insulation ear pads and 3 pairs of low-resonance ear pads are included, along with a storage case.

The best single BA universal I've ever heard
Easily the best IEMs I've heard at this price range - bought them to replace my SM64s that died a very unfortunate death in my washing machine. 200 was the max I could swing, and I'd heard good things about the FAD Heaven IVs that these are based, so when I heard these had been tuned to tone down a little of the top end sibilance of the latter, I figured they were worth a try. Caveat Emptor, you MUST get a good seal for these to sound even decent. Otherwise they will sound thin and bright with no bass whatsoever. I recommend the tips with the wider opening having tried all of them. That said, once you get the right fit, you'll be rewarded with the most coherent set of universal IEMs I've ever heard. The imaging on these is spectacular, the midrange is gorgeous, and they're incredibly quick and detailed. The very top end and the very bottom are a little rolled off (though much less so than every other single BA IEM I've ever heard), but in that all important 50hz - 15khz range, they're just magnificent sounding. Pretty much every "budget" BA earphone I've heard suffers from immense phase problems do to less-than-perfectly implemented crossovers, but since these don't have a crossover, the all-important midrange sounds stellar. And the bass, while lacking that last octave of reach, is tight, punchy and CLEAN sounding. If you're a bass-head and want real thumpers for electronic music, look elsewhere. For jazz/rock/classical, pretty much any acoustic music, these are the phones you want. I've enjoyed my commutes with them immeasurably.

sounds like banging tin with no base at all
Just awful, sounds like banging tin with no base at all. Overall tonality was like an old transistor radio. I own many high end and normal iem's ranging from 50$ to over 1000$. So I understand the market and what a disappointment. The 5star ratings are employees or never heard a quality iem. I shoved those awkward shaped AKR01's very very deep in my ear and got the full lackluster tinny effect.
