Very Nice Unit
Just got it so can make no comment on reliability which obviously is key for the long run. However this design has been in use for decades and it is heavy and seems built like a tank. The controls are straight forward too with no fancy lights, LED displays or gimmicks. The lock down was surprising in that when I put the head down I was sure I had hit the bottom of the bowl it was so solid but it had not. Clearance to the bowl is amazingly close which is good. It runs fairly quiet too. I did a lot of research and at least for my purpose the tilt head model was a good balance of strength and size. It is surprisingly compact and fits under the shelves on the counter even with he head up and leaves plenty of working room. I realize this model is much higher priced than the standard model. The difference is in the finish. The standard finish is a powder coat which is basically a melted baked on if you will type of material not unlike a hard plastic. Very durable and can be done in a number of colors. And a good choice. This series (I have the brushed nickel) is actual metal bonded to the unit via what I assume is an electrolysis process like the chrome on a car. It provides an almost bullet proof finish that is very durable but requires time for the process to work and the use of actual metal to bond to the surface hence the high price. For what it is worth it matched the stainless appliances (stainless is part nickel) exactly and should provide the same durability. Very nice unit and well worth it!

Dreamy
I've put off ordering a stand mixer for years, which is just insane because of the amount of baking I do that would be dramatically improved by using a stand mixer.I bought the Satin Copper and I've got to say that it's the most beautiful thing I own or probably will ever own. I don't want to put it in a cupboard and I don't want to put a dust cover on it. The copper sheen is GORGEOUS and I'm really interested to see what kind of a patina it'll develop over time.My only critique is how Amazon packaged the box. There was literally NO regard for the arrow that tell you "this side up" with how it was package, and the delivery took the same approach. The arrows aren't invisible. It's helpful to have them followed especially with a really expensive purchase.

Love the KitchenAid Custom Metallic Stand Mixer
I fell in love with the KitchenAid Custom Metallic mixer (Brushed Nickel) when I first saw it several years ago at William Sonoma in my local mall however it was too expensive and I never purchased it. I finally purchased this mixer in December, 2011 from Amazon.com for a much reasonable price and I'm glad I did. It works wonderfully and the Brushed Nickel color is gorgeous. Thank you Amazon for offering this product at a reasonable price and with free shipping which helped as well. I finally own the KitchenAid mixer I have always wanted.

Don't pay extra for the metal finish.
This is my favorite kitchen appliance ever. I always wanted one and saw that Martha Stewart had the stainless steel one, so I had to have it because she's my idol. In hindsight, I would not have paid this much extra for the "custom metallics" model, because I now see her use the painted "stainless steel" model on her show too. It's the same mixer and none of my friends have expressed jealousy over the metal finish, so it's not worth it. It makes it very easy to bake. It cut my prep time in half. If you have anyone in your life that loves to bake, or if you love anyone's baked goods and they don't have one of these, buy them one now. You'll be rewarded with so many cakes and cookies. If you love to bake, get this. It's not even comparable to any other mixers.

Do not buy it!
This is the crappiest mixer I've ever owned. I would be better off if I just kept my hand mixer that worked just fine. The top started wobbling after owning it for a year and I had to take it into a repair shop. The repair shop told me they had to "take the entire thing apart" to see what was wrong with it, which was total crap. I had to pay $177 to get a screw tightened. Do not buy this crappy mixer.

The love of my life
I have been eyeing this mixer for the last five years since I saw it on display in Williams Sonoma. I absolutely love the copper finish and think it is so elegant and lovely. Unfortunately, I was living in a tiny apartment with minimal counter and cabinet space and had to delay my purchase until I got into a house with a bigger kitchen...Once that happened, I bought this beauty for my personal housewarming gift! And it was absolutely worth the wait! It looks so beautiful sitting on my countertop and functions the way Kitchenaid mixers are known for. I couldn't be happier! But, since I like my kitchen items to look stellar at all times, I found the steel mixing bowl difficult to keep pristine, so I ordered the glass mixing bowl and have been very happy with that. My mixer and I are in baking heaven :)

The performance is great, the esthetics is disappointing
I bought this copper kitchen aid mixer a few years ago and it has performed well. My only complaint is that after a couple years of use, the copper is wearing off on several places. I don't scrub mine with harsh abrasives. Just soap and a cloth. The performance is great, the esthetics is disappointing.

Pretty Copper
Love the copper exterior but the locking mechanism to keep the head down while it's running is either too loose or not made properly. Will not stay locked. I also had to buy off market mixing attachments to reach the sides of the bowl while mixing.... so... it's pretty, it's powerful, but has some flaws and not worth the $400 price tag.
