Am I The Last Person to own one of these?
I never had been intrigued by owning a vac sealer. It never really crossed my mind, as we never had wasted food or leftovers beyond a day or so... and then the kids grew up and moved off to college.I have to purchase larger pieces of food to get the good deals, and then trying to save them from Freezer Burn or Fridge Fuzz makes for a lot of wasted food. After interviewing several friends who own food sealers, the consistently happy owners all had FoodSaver systems. So, I bit the bullet and took the plunge! This is a breeze to use and does a wonderful job on the first try! I had read some horrible reviews of this model, and was worried that I wouldn't be smart enough to use it... Um. I'm not sure what they're doing different, but mine is kinda goof-proof.I unpacked my FoodSaver V3460 and set it on the kitchen counter. I read the manual so I could identify the parts to which they were referring. I rolled my FoodSaver V3460 over, opening and peeking in all the different places. Nothing was unidentifiable.I loaded in some bag material. (Purchase a few extra rolls of 11". You'll want them. Also purchase some oxygen removers, of you are planning long-term storage.) And successfully made three bags of vac-sealed goodies!I am pleased! I can see saving quite a bunch on our food bill, by not having spoilage or freezer burn with which to contend. Being able to purchase in bulk while veggies are in season this Summer... Yeahhh, I see this being well worth it!Update: After a week or so, I have only NOT been able to seal one bag, and it is because I cut it a little too short for the volume I wanted to seal up! Every bag has sealed perfectly, and on the first try. I have blown through about 10' of 11" bags and have stored many things in the freezer! I am extremely happy I purchased my FoodSaver V3460! When used with the marinating box, making fajita meat from brisket was a BREEZE... A 10 lb brisket made three 3-pound fajita meats, and fit into the 11" bag material. :D(Discovered a trick on storing wet items such as soups: freeze it in a butter bowl first, and then transfer the frozen block into the bag for sealing. Allow it to thaw on the counter, if you want the nice, flat, uniform shape for efficient freezer-stacking. Works like a charm.)

Model 3460 is a great product !
This food saver is the best Vacuum packer on the market in my opinion. Fast , easy to use , fits nicely on the kitchen counter and will save us big $ in the future. Much of our left overs can be sealed and used several days, weeks or months for another great tasting meal. Often time our kids "raid" the freezer to see what we have stored. Bar-b-q ribs and pork steaks are two of my favorites to seal and freeze for future use. That "same as the day it was cooked" flavors make for a real quick meal that we all enjoy. I have found myself cooking a little extra so that we can seal off some good food for future use.

disappointed in performance
This is my second foodsaver. The first lasted about 3 years and performed well. This one is disappointing. We use the foodsaver for our garden vegtables. This one overheads quickly. We have to wait between just making bags. It will overheat and not remove the air, but will seal the bags. If you are looking for a product to use with your garden products, I do not recommend this model. If you are looking for one for just routine home vacuum sealing I am sure it would be fine. I got the upright to save space but I prefer the regular. It is harder to make bags with this one and if your bag end curls at all it will not seal. I will get a new one before I start on my garden produce next summer.

Unbelievably Easy to Use
I received my V3460 only 2 days ago and didn't even bother to read the user guide. All the instructions I needed were right on the box and in the unit. Already I've made my own bags and have sealed meat, fish and blackberries. I couldn't be happier. This machine is a no-brainer. I'm having a lot of problems with the naysayers here. It's not as hard as they make it out to be. Insert bag, turn it on, watch the air get sucked out, listen to it seal it up, remove bag. Takes less than a minute. What's so hard about that?Reading some of the reviews I thought I'd have a bit of a struggle fitting the bags into the slot. Huh? It was easy. You simply can't make a mistake here. Before I purchased it I wondered how I would find cupboard space to store it. Well, this is going to be a counter-top appliance because I will be using it so often. I shop a few times a week and am tired of wrapping up food in tinfoil or saran only to find the edges discolored after only a few weeks. This is the solution I've been looking for because I will be saving a lot of freezer space and the food will stay safer longer.I own a lot of kitchen gadgets and appliances that are rarely used. This will not be one of them.Wish I had thought of getting one of these a long time ago.If you want to save money by not wasting food (at these prices we really can't afford to) this is the must-have appliance. This model takes the work out of packaging food and with the suction being so strong and fast, the work is done in no time. This appliance gets the highest recommendation.Update:I've now had this appliance for 3 months and I am using it at least a couple of times a week. I threw out my plastic containers. Using rolls to make bags is the easy and fast. I've been experimenting with what I can freeze in them. Anything with liquid in it I found to be tricky as the machine wants to suck out some of the liquid. My fix was to pre-freeze the soup, stew, etc., in an unsealed bag until the liquid got a bit slushy, then put it through the sealer. Works like a charm. When something goes on sale so cheap they are practically giving it away, I buy it. I've frozen butter and cheese and both came out fresh as the day I bought it. I am wasting no food these days. If I know I won't be using something right away, I just seal it. Before, I always ended up throwing away so much food. Just about the only thing I have to throw out these days is lettuce. What a huge savings. This sealer has already paid for itself with the money I'm saving on not wasting food. After fairly heavy use over these 3 months I found no loss in suction or sealing power.
