PROJECT FARM SHOWS FAVORABLE RESULTS
PROJECT FARM is an awesome channel on U-TOOB that does common sense testing on many common products in a semi-controlled way. Results are untainted and are for all to see, often in sped-up time. The channel is not sponsored by anyone but those who wish to contribute. All products are paid for with the testor's own money received from his supporters. Some of the testing is done just for fun of it, like testing pig fat as a small engine lubricant, which actually showed surprising results. On the other hand, Todd, the owner of the channel, also does some serious testing, like cold and hot flow rates on various leading brand synthetic oils, like this new Amazon Basics synthetic 5W-30 oil. This oil actually flowed better in cold and hot flow tests compared to Mobil 1 and it's lubricity, while not quite as good as Mobil 1 5W-30, was "almost" as good, but for it's MUCH lower price, seems like a better value for most users that do average driving.

Mercon V great - but watch out if the spec call for the original Mercon
Great for Mercon V applications. My Ford Windstar now has 250,000 miles on the original transmission using this fluid. however -- watch out if your Ford calls for the original Mercon fluidback In 2001 Ford specifically stated in BOLD print "Mercon is not compatible with Mercon V"then, In 2007 Ford discontinued Mercon and specify the new Mercon V is compatible with the old Mercon. What magic did Ford do? I found that "multi-fluids" like this mobil product is best for Mercon V applications.See Ford TSB 06-14-4 dated 7/24/06 and for power steering see Ford TSB 01-15-07 dated 7/26/01.Two companies still sell the original formula of Dexron II / Mercon fluid - Castrol, Valvoline.---- Here is an excerpt from the Ford 2003 owners manual ----Some transmission fluids may be labeled as dual usage, such as MERCON and MERCON V. These dual usage fluids are not to be used in an automatic transmission that requires use of the MERCON type fluid. However, these dual usage fluids may be used in transmissions that require the MERCON V type fluid. MERCON and MERCON V type fluids are not interchangeable. DO NOT mix MERCON and MERCON V.Use of a transmission fluid that indicates dual usage (MERCON and MERCON V) in an automatic transmission application requiring MERCON may cause transmission damage.

A warning to GM Dexron using trans. owners
I purchased this Mobil 1 atf for my Miata and it worked extremely well. The Miata shifts like brand new. I later replaced all 12 quarts in my GMC Sierra with this oil. The transmission always shifted smoothly, however it seemed as if with this Mobil 1 that I noticed even smoother shifting, however, there was a shuddering feeling that I had never felt before in the 4L60e. I drove the GM for about 100 miles and shudder continued, I then replaced the Mobil 1 with the GM dexron full synthetic atf and the shudder quickly went away. If you own a GM, based on my experience, the 4L60e transmission wants the real dexron, I should have played it safe and went with the AC Delco Dexron in the first place. This says it works for GM Dexron, but it didn't work well in my GMC Sierra. Great atf nevertheless. The GM oil. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EGOR5JO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4cZcFbXXWZ1ME

Well worth it!!!!!
I have been using Mobil 1 ATF in the automatic transmission and power steering of my 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser for many years. After the initial flush and refill, every time I replace the engine oil I take out 3 qts of transmission ATF and pour in 3 qts. The transmission shifts smoothly. I also use it in my 1985 VW Vanagon with automatic transmission and power steering, shifts very smooth. Please note that since it is synthetic, there are some leaks through the old, worn out seals. The extra protection is well worth living with a few new leaks.
