Atmos - DTSX Capable Receiver
I bought the Sony STRZA5000ES, and I've been playing around with an Atmos 5.1.4 setup. I highly recommend going to the Dolby website to download configuration instructions before buying as I was able to use all my existing equipment to setup the Atmos configuration using this receiver. I was not in the market for a receiver with several other bells and whistles around HD radio, Satellite Radio, Internet Radio, Apple Airplay as I use a Sonos Connect which provides whole house sound which now integrates my new Sony receiver into the system. I ran the Auto calibration tool, and went through all the setup questions which worked pretty good. I might still need to go back and fine tune some of the settings, and I did say no to the last question on the calibration which asks you something about maximizing matching XXXX which I found to give you too much sub action. I find the sound amazing and I get pulled into each movie I watch .... I was just channel surfing last night, and came across Black Sails on HBO which had a battle scene with canon's which felt like my couch was under fire, and raining scenes with the drip sounds are quite compelling. I'm very happy with the Sony purchase, and I'm now waiting to buy a new Sony OLED television to go with the receiver now.

That the Amp. fan works along with the other componets.
I had the receiver for about a week, and I had to send it back because the fan quit working, causing internal problems with overheating. The Amp. would make clicking noises inside, causing the video to drop out, the sound to drop out.I am sure that the fan not working is causing the problems.

Bravia Sync Doesnt Work with other sony devices
I spent over (2) days working with Sony Support to try and get my Sony devices to Bravia sync.I purchased all Sony equipment in anticipation that they would seemlessly and easily work together. Its been a nightmare instead.I have a Sony STR-ZA5000ES AV receiver, UBP-700X Blu-ray and XBR65X900E TV. All are about 2 months old.The Bravia Sync initially worked thru HDMI3-ARC. However, it stopped around the time I connected an IR blaster to control by cable. When the cable or BP channel is selected on the receiver then the TV remote is able to control both devices such as volume control, changing channels and fast forwarding. However I either have to manually select the channel input directly from the receiver or use the AV receiver remote. I can not select devices using the TV remote. Instead, if I select to control either the Receiver or Blu-ray then their respective home screen freezes on the TV. CEC work perfectly on HDMI 2 but i wont have the ARC function. Sony support suggest I do the work around and use HDMI 2 instead since they can't get the HDMI 3 to work. My response is these devices should work perfectly together since they are all made by Sony. Especially when the receiver is their top unit. I talked several technician and they could not solve this problem. I purchased this unit because of the supposed ease of integration. If it can't integrate with it sister device then how well is going to be controlled with my home automation. My Anthem MRX-720 unit installed easily while connecting to a Sony Blu-ray and Samsung TV. Plus the Anthem has play-fi and this Sony doesn't.

Sony's new A/V receiver has LESS musical flexibility than previous model.
This is an extremely disappointing replacement as Sony's top A/V receiver. Instead of being a big step up from the previous 5800ES receiver, it is actually a big step down from it. For example, most of the analogue inputs have been eliminated from the back so a true 5-channel analog SACD surround sound hook-up is no longer possible. Incredibly too, there is also no longer any jack to make headphone listening possible. Sony has also eliminated the classical music hall "sound fields" from the unit for those who listen to classical music, and some other audio cut-backs have been made too.The 5000ES is somewhat more powerful than the (discontinued) 5800ES was, and although it produced good sound, it is clear Sony has modified the current unit to be little more than a simple, compromised amp with more Ethernet settings than before, able to handle 9 or 11 speakers, with Atmos & 4k adaptability.

Awsome 7.2.2 sound, but HDMI-1 video out quit after 2 years :(
I bought this along with a 75" Bravia TV and their top BluRay player. All worked seamlessly and perfectly for 2 years then suddenly the HDMI-1 output from the amp quit sending video, so the HOME onscreen display was no longer available and I had to resort to enabling Zone2 for video out :(. Very disappointed with that. I will contact ES premier support and give an update if we can resolve... resetting the amp does nothing and all other connections work fine. Besides that major issue, the sound is PHENOMENAL. I'm using it with 2 ceiling speakers, 2 subs and the sound is beyond immersive. Actually had to replace all the main speakers because the JBL speakers (which aren't that bad normally) could not handle the power and range that the SONY gives them.

Love it!!
Absolutely an incredible A/V Receiver. It Sounds incredible. You may not get Bluetooth and casting functionality with it, but the sound quality you do get with it is phenomenal. It is meant to be in a rack with other AV equipment and installed in maybe a home automation system or something. The room tuning works great and and seems to get fairly accurate results in terms of distance. I love it, I don't need Bluetooth, or Google cast in my receiver. Not sure why you would even want to cast directly to the receiver when you can just cast to the TV.
