Great case, but doesn't snap shut like it should
This case is nice and my 11 yr old son loves it mainly because of the way it folds up to keep the iPad upright. The only problem is it will not close. The iPad fits in perfectly, but you can not close the case as you are supposed to be able too. He has dropped it once on the carpet from a standing position, but nothing happened because it was folded to be closed. I really wish it would snap shut to keep it completely safe when closed up, but it won't. I knew this going in because of all of the reviews I read ahead of time about it not snapping shut, but I decided to get it anyways because my son was always trying to prop up his old iPad. If you are not concerned with it snapping shut, I recommend it.

Nice Case
I paid full price for this case, so my review is impartial. I love this case. It offers great protection without being bulky or heavy. It's a little snug when you clasp the cover shut and a bit tricky to open. I could see some older folks having difficulty with it. I have knocked my iPad off the nightstand twice; landing on a hard surface both times and my iPad sustained no damage at all. The "stand" feature works well when I travel for watching movies on an airplane.

This would be a great case if the latch weren't so hard to fasten
This is an excellent case as far as providing protection for the iPad Mini 3/4. Nice, reinforced edges and corners; strong rubbery back; solid, form-fitting cover with versatile stand. What more could anyone possibly want? This may only be a problem with the one that I received, but the latch that fastens the cover to the edge of the case when closed is a BEAR to snap. I got this for my seven-year old son, and he complains about it all the time. You have to push really, really hard on the cover along the spine to move the cover over close enough to the edge where the latch will just barely fit over that edge and snap into place. He doesn't have the strength or coordination to do this, and it's not an easy thing for me to do as an adult. I hope that this is only a problem with ours.Has anyone else had problems with the latch being difficult to secure?

Installed correctly it works!
Anybody who says the closure doesn’t work properly does not have the case on correctly. It is difficult getting the edges/corners to stretch all the way on the iPad, but that’s the point. It fits snugly. And when it does, it operates completely as advertised. For the price, I think similar and cheaper products would provide about the same amount of protection. But I think this is pretty good protection and stand display for less than $30.

Fits iPad mini 4 (A1538) perfectly, no latch issue!
All the reviews that say the side latch doesn’t work are wrong. They either have the wrong iPad mini version or they have not fully engaged the iPad inside the case. This fits the iPad mini 4 (A1538) perfectly. There is a latch on the cover which requires slight pressure to open. It is very easy to open while holding iPad in left hand and using thumb of right hand to unlatch. This case is much more sturdy than most and it doesn’t fall over when used in easel mode. The cover folds back so iPad can be held as book. It has smooth edges and feels good in hand. This is a genuine Otterbox, as it was delivered in retail packaging. I love it!Update: As others have also experienced, the cover came unglued. It seems the heat of the iPad causes glue to loosen. I fixed this problem using “thin style” Velcro strips. (Regular is too bulky) Now I can remove and replace the cover as desired.

Solid style with good protection but buttons are hard to use
I like the style, quality, and relative slimness of the case. I particularly like how the cover latches securely to the case and also the cover folds into a stand with the outside of the cover staying on the outside. May other cases, the cover folds "inside-out" exposing the inside of the cover to dust and dirt when using as a stand which then transfers to your screen upon closing the cover! I also quiet like the "leather like" soft plastic texture however it does show dents, rips, and nicks. One last observation is that the power and volume buttons are difficult to use, this caused 1 star off this item's rating to 4 stars only.

Fantastic iPad Mini case
I was a little dissuaded from buying this due to all the negative reviews about the case not working right, but I have found little to fault this case for after using it for a month. To address the complaints about the front cover clasp, it takes about the same amount of force to pop closed as a button on a jacket, it's not much at all. If you have delicate fingers, there's a ton of cheaper options that fit the bill. The strength of the clasp is strong to hold the cover on; you could drop, loose, toss, or throw this case, and the front cover doesn't pop open, it's perfect. And on the buttons, they are harder to press, I'd guess 2 or 2.5 times harder than without the case, but again, they're going to be a bit harder to press if you want any real protection. It's covered in a fairly thick polyurethane/polycarbonate case, I'm thoroughly impressed by how rugged and well designed this case is while never inhibiting normal user operation. For context, I've used this for reading chord charts while performing onstage, mixing wireless on a digital mixer, and for various audio and music work in between, where things happen, and it takes tumbles occasionally and gets thrown in bags with heavy pieces of gear. At the same time, I've used it at home to watch videos, play games, or record from my audio interface, and it's easy enough to latch and push buttons for all those lighter tasks as well. The only minor gripe I can come up with is I kind of wish the indents in the cover for it to stand up on were a little deeper; if you push on it hard enough while in the last couple stand mode indents, it can fall over backwards. At the same time, making those indents deeper either ends up making the cover thinner/less protective in spots, or making a thicker cover, neither of which I would prefer to the current set up.

Buttons very difficult to operate
This is a well made product. However there is an issue that must be noted. The volume buttons do not work well. I have to press extremely hard on these buttons to get the volume to change. Sometimes I have to make several attempts. This alone makes the case a disappointment and will be replaced. I am going to get a Zugu case which appears to be as sturdy but leaves a opening for the volume and power buttons. This my first disappoint with an Otter product

Sleep/wake function non existent
I purchased this cover recently and the sleep wake function does not work. I suspect that the magnets in the screen cover are too weak or virtually nonexistent. I have purchased other Otterbox products in the past, now I’m not sure of there newest offerings in the iPad mini market. Sent the cover back to amazon, got a full refund!

Auto Sleep/Wake does not work.
Case seems OK, but the screen doesn't wake when you open the cover and it doesn't turn off the screen when you close it. Light from the screen is still visible from where the cover folds. So it's like the magnet doesn't exist or is defective. For $40, not impressed. Will send it back if I don't hear from the seller.
