Chunks in my smoothies.
I got this to replace a Ninja pulse blender which died (started leaking grease at the base) barely after one year. I had a Vitamix in the 90's, but didn't want to spend that kind of cash. So I was very excited to find this Dash blender.I use it exclusively to make smoothies and shakes. The smoothies I make have rice milk, kale, carrots, banana, and frozen strawberries. This blender blends the overall concoction smoother than the Ninja did, but oddly, it almost always leaves an almond sized chunk or two of the frozen strawberries. Even if I run it an extra 30 seconds, the blades just seem to push that chunk around and around. As for shakes (yum!)- I need to use the stick to get it to blend the ice cream.I'm guessing that the blade design is responsible for these minor annoyances. If the blender last for years, I will be happy. If not, I will update.UPDATE: I have figured out that if I listen very carefully, I can hear if there are any chunks as the motor is coming to a stop. I can then use the pulse mode to break them up. Pulse breaks them up better than a constant speed, because at constant speed, the chunks just go flying round and round. I think when the motor stops, the chunks sink to the bottom and the blades can do their thing when it starts up again. Hope this helps.Udate #2: After 18 months, the blender started smoking while blending my smoothie. Turns out, the bearings have failed. Searching the web, it seems this is not an uncommon problem. To Dash's credit, when I called them, they said they would send a new jug this one time (which I just received three days later). But I'm not confident this will last any longer. I make, on average, two to three smoothies a week, so this blender does not get used a ton. Hopefully, I can find a way to replace the bearings. (The person at Dash said it's not possible.) If anyone knows how to replace the bearings, I'd love to see a tutorial.

Surpasses expectations
We chose this blender to replace our Oster professional blender purchased in 2007 after the all-metal drive sheared off, rendering the blender useless. I had not been dissatisfied with it, but referred to Consumer Reports before selecting a replacement blender, knowing I will have it for many years. We use a blender for making smoothies and pureeing soups. This Dash blender stood out compared to my old blender in my first hand experience using it, and compared to its competition in the Consumer Reports ratings. It got high marks in all areas of performance, has a large, 8 cup capacity pitcher, a 7 year warranty and a very competitive price!Additionally, unlike our Oster blender, the solid steel blade assembly is integrated into the pitcher- you do not have to unscrew the base to remove and clean the blade. Because of this, the base cannot leak. We have made smoothies in it twice since its arrival, and the comparison between it and the old Oster is impressive! Just put in the ingredients, select smoothie, push start and stand back. When it stops you have smoothies. No fiddling around getting all the frozen fruit incorporated. My eyes have been opened. This is an awesome blender. I have been settling for years with leaks from a screw on base, a small capacity pitcher and struggles getting my ingredients to incorporate.I will mention that I am not fully clear on how the settings all work and find the directions a bit unclear, but I have had success using it none-the-less. And the base/motor is monstrous in size. If you want to store this on your counter under upper cabinets, it probably will not fit with the pitcher on the base.

Terrifyingly Powerful
I am terrified of this blender. This machine is super-powerful, and it has made quick work of everything my husband and I have thrown at it. We have had it for a couple months now, so can't speak to its longevity, but we have already put it through a ton of work. We have used it mostly to make the traditional smoothies and soups, but the other day I also used it to make my own ground turkey - it was perfect for the job. Homemade hummus is next on the menu.A nice added feature is its tamper tool, which you can use to push items from the top down toward the blade - even while the blender is still running. This blender is nice because my husband doesn't like his smoothies "too chunky", and this blender does a really good job at the "pulverize to smithereens" stint, so chunks are no problem. If anything, my only complaint about this blender is that I can't seem to figure out how to use it to "chop" things like nuts or vegetables. Like I mentioned before, it is really best at pulverizing - anything less intense takes some trying.A note on the sound level, you really can't expect something with a motor this big to be quiet, and this blender isn't. But it isn't horribly loud either - I think we were expecting it to be louder. The apartment neighbors haven't complained yet, but then again we haven't been pulverizing smoothies at 3:00am either.Overall a very nice and powerful machine, if you're feeling brave enough to use it.

Great Blender!
I LOVE MY BLENDER! It is a lot bigger than I had anticipated but honestly I love it! It’s chic and does the job very well. It blends quickly and smoothly. As of now I have only made smoothies or soups but I have had great result. I do wish it was quieter but I am very happy with it. Super easy mechanics and simple to clean when you pre rinse.

Best Blender
This blender is the best one I have ever owned. Produces the best smoothies no matter what you toss in. Way, Way better blender than my previous one (Ninja)

It's really big!
Please note that this has no baring on the functionally of the blender, but more on the size of it.This blender is truly big. It's not suited for a small kitchen. On the counter it was taller than my 5'2" wife. It won't go under any counter...I also found the buttons a bit confusing and flashy, but I guess with time I would've got used to it.....Returned promptly......
