What "technique" must I use to keep these NiMH batteries from dying so quickly? Typically are dead in 1 year and only ~25 uses.

I have found in the past, that not running the battery completely down before recharging it tends to have the battery "lock" into a less than full recharge condition. Then it charges less and less fully until it won't hold a charge at all. Another thing is leaving it on the charger for extended periods of time after it is charged will cause the battery to fail as well. I think it is better to leave it in the drill rather than on the charger.

dose it works on Makita 8390D drill?

It should. There design fits a multitude of makita drills and will really put life into it. The power is unbelievable and last's a long time.

Can you confirm if this battery is the correct NiMh upgrade for the PA18 (Ni-Cd) battery.
