Worth it.
First things first, these are great! I highly recommend them. I was starting to have sore ears for a day or so every time I went surfing. I bought these, took 4 sessions to figure out the right sizing, and now I won’t get in the water without them!! No more sore ears, no more muffled hearing afterwards. Can still talk with friends in the water. Buy these today.-the fit can be a bit tricky to figure out. It took me a few sessions to get each ear dialed with proper sizes. Once I had them right though, it’s awesome!-super comfortable! (Again w/right fit).I found myself forgetting that I was even wearing them. When size was too big for my ears (first session), they got sore after about 30 minutes. But with the right size, I didn’t even feel them after over and hour in the water.-They keep water out.Plain and simple. Water doesn’t get in. Even when you duck dive under a wave. Dry the whole time.-You can hear through them!!It’s crazy. Probably the biggest part of forgetting that you’re wearing them is that they let you hear so clearly. Even quiet conversations of other people in the lineup.-They don’t fall out!Again, size size size. Can’t emphasise enough. If the size is wrong, they’re loose, water will come in, sound can get weird, they’re uncomfortable. But if you take the time to size them properly, they stay in perfectly. No adjustment was even needed. (Even while surfing head high waves, and trying to get through the shore break)

Good Compromise Between Water Flushing and Hearing - There are Knockoff Versions as Well
Used to use Doc's Pro Plugs, the vented version. They definitely keep all the water out. Unfortunately, they also keep all the sound out. This SurfEars looks to be the original and the real thing. Is also marketed as SwimEars sold by FINIS. There are knock-offs on Amazon as well . There is GOOQ Earplugs and Fitian Earplug. Both of them are knockoffs. These knockoffs are much cheaper. You can tell they are knockoffs because GOOQ make many other rubber / plastic components like watch bands. Is typically how these suppliers work, they copy a product and make their molds. A replacement watchband I got for Garmin was not nearly as good as the original BTW.Question is which one do you trust. For sure SurfEars is charging a lot for what you are getting. Guess you are paying for R&D. These knockoffs can be hit or miss. How much are you willing to roll the dice on your ear's health? Although any knockoff is still better than nothing. These SurfEars do a pretty good job of keeping water from flushing in and out. Used them in 58F water. Is definitely more comfortable with them on than off. However, they do let in more water than the traditional Doc's Pro Plugs. Feels like like they struck a delicate compromise between no hearing and some water going in and out of the ear. Just have to trust in the long run, there will be no medical issues with these earplugs.

DISAPPOINTMENT
DISCLAIMER: competitive Master's swimmer (in the water 1.5-2 hours/ 6 days a week)I bought these originally on KickStarter and loved them. They came in a nice lowkey blue and fit really well. After a while (maybe about a year) the seal around the mesh started to go, so I bought another pair. I think these are now my 6th pair because the seal seems to go sooner and sooner. In addition, the newest change makes them fit not as well in my ears. I have to constantly readjust in practice because I feel a drop of water going into my ear. Also, I asked the creators why they changed to a highlighter orange and they said "safety". It doesn't even make sense to me. Let's say you use these out on the ocean and god forbid, you get knocked unconscious, no one is going to see these tiny little ear plugs in your ears and find you. If they meant safety as in if there's an emergency and you get saved, EMS responders would obviously see you have something in your ear (if it even were that nice original blue).Overall, as a swimmer, they were great for my swimmer's ear I was constantly battling. But the new design is definitely letting water in, while also letting sound in. So I guess they half work.

Ear protection that still allows you to hear.
These have changed my life. I am a riverboarder which means I basically bodyboard down whitewater rivers. In the past, if I took a little bit of churning underwater while trying to surf a hydraulic, I'd get swimmer's ear and feel like my ears were blocked for a few days. These keep the water out of my ears and I can still hear while wearing them which is important in whitewater. Even after a few hours of wearing them, they only get mildly uncomfortable and they are still worth it to avoid swimmer's ear.

A godsend, really! The best!!
I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while! Although these aren’t perfect, they are by far the best earplugs I’ve ever tried! I have holes in my ears and can’t get water in them. Let me just say how wonderful it is to swim and surf in the ocean AND hear! I haven’t heard waves while being in them for years. They’re a little scary because you can feel the water, but it doesn’t get through the mesh barrier. The fit us tough to get right and I still can’t get one to fit snugly all of the time, but I love that it has an arm to keep it in the ear that works even when I get tossed by a wave. My boyfriend also has a pair and loves them, but he doesn’t have a medical need for them. Better than every other earplug, especially the custom ones and trust me, I’ve tried them all and spent far more on throw away plugs. Thank you, surf ears, for letting me enjoy the ocean again instead of constantly being terrified of my earplugs coming out and having to read lips from a distance.

If these ears of mine were better, I think these would be awesome
If these ears of mine were better, I think these would be awesome. Unfortunately my ears and these plugs do not go well together. The sizes provided are either too small or way too big, the locking ear lab things hurt after about 5 minutes and then if I go down a size they just fall out, and when I have them in and take a spill while kiteboarding the water gets in and STAYS in. I gave them three stars due to the fact that its probably my own anatomy that is the issue and not the ear plugs.. I wanted these to work so badly but they just didn't.
