The distance between the tray and the bottom of the desk is 4.5" minus whatever the thickness of the desk is. So if your desk is 1" thick, the tray would have 3.5" of clearance.

Q: I have a glass desk and am looking for a keyboard tray. Will this clamp to a glass desk that is 5cm thick?

Yes it would fit, however when mounting something on a glass top desk, you should really use something with much longer support clasps that would distribute pressure over a larger area to avoid the possibility of cracking or breaking the glass. if you rest your hands on the tray it could case undue extra stress. Though this is a very light tray and may work, you may be better looking for one specifically made for a glass top.
