Krylon K08420007 Top Coat Clear Crackle Finish Paint, 12 ounces

This used in conjunction with the base coat helped me make a gorgeous crackle effect wine cup! It was super easy to do on a stainless steel cup, so I imagine it will be just as easy on whatever you do. Only 4 stars because I seemed to use a lot of the can for a 14 oz wine cup. 5 stars on how the cup turned out!

Did not work at all! Not even one crackle.At waste of money and wasn’t even returnable. Didn’t deserve 1 star.

The people who said that the top coat doesn't work sounds like they just didn't do it right because it worked just fine. You just have to follow directions. I used it on a picture frame and it looks awesome with smaller crackles in most places and larger crackles in several places. I like the way it turned out.

These are the first three pieces I tried with the Krylon crackle top coat.The print on the label was very tiny so I tried to find information on how to use it online.The official website did not give me any kind of instruction to follow.I watched some YouTube videos but they were using a different brand of crackle top coat. What I gathered was this:1)The top coat has to be sprayed on top of a wet layer of Base coat.2) if you find you don't get the desired effect, apply your base coat and then the crackle coat, and dry with a heat gun or hair dryer on high.Also, I'm sure this paint reacts differently to other brands of paint. In the first picture, I used Rust-Oleum gold. The crackle top coat did not want to behave the way it is supposed to. I resprayed the Rust-Oleum gold, applied the Krylon crackle top coat, and hit it with a hair dryer on high heat.In the second picture, I also used a Rust-Oleum paint. I applied it pretty thick and put the top coat on while it was wet. I got a very interesting effect.In the third picture, I used Colorshot from Walmart. After applying the crackle top coat, I noticed that I got the best effect from this combination.I feel like I will have to continue experimenting with this product in order to fully figure it out.

Leaves nice crackle finish, but doesn't cover real well over dark colors. Need to make sure you get really good coat on fast.

Despite following the directions, this product did NOT give the desired results. I’ve used hundreds of gallons of spray paint in projects before and this can didn’t perform. Amazon did refund my purchase, but this was a “one time exception” and there were a few hoops to jump through. It is safe to say I will continue to use Krylon paints, but I will no longer be buying paint from Amazon due to their poor paint policy.

Easy to spray, but coverage is not sheer. Well my results weren’t entirely what I expected. Perhaps because my base coat gold wasn’t from this product line but from a chain hardware store. It did not crackle at all & I had to adjust the design. So use the campion base product.
