Rational Phytotherapy: A Reference Guide for Physicians and Pharmacists

Started using my book for a class and realized quickly that several of the pages were not glued into the book, so I have multiple loose pages falling out as I try to read. I don't think this is the seller's fault; it's a problem with the manufacturing of the book, but still a disappointment when the book costs almost $100.

I bought this book for a class I was taking. I really liked all the information about more specifics on scientific research supporting herbal use for various medical/ health conditions. This type of information makes it safer and improves efficacy for using herbs. However, the format of the book I really didn't like. It is challenging to use as a reference because so many of the studies referenced are provided in narrative form rather than a table which would make it convenient for quick access to information. Each section for each herb never seemed to follow the same format, so again, not good for a reference- it is challenging to quickly find any information. This book would be so much better if the formatting was different.

If you are a healthcare practitioner and want to offer the best, most recent information to your patients this is a great text. It narrows down the top researched herbs for each body system and also gives historical evidence as to their use as well. Bottom line it removes all confusion and marketing hype and focuses on facts and efficacy. From everything to drug interactions, researched dosages, and studies in comparison to drugs, the text will give you clear evidence on how to advise patients and implement botanicals into your treatment regimen. I also found the comparisons between Germany's and the US' healthcare/drug agencies/systems to be very interesting. Overall the best herbal medicine book I've read.
