Optimus 5 Inch Foam Speaker Repair Kit FSK-5 (Pair)

Used this kit to repair Optimus Pro 77 Model 20-4058 (about 20 years old). Emailed Simply Speakers before order to confirm that this was the correct kit and quickly received this response: "The FSK-5 is the best fit possible for your model but it does run small. It barely grabs the cone or the frame but you should have just enough to make it work. ..... Even if you have to glue the outer foam to the rounded inner portion of the frame (which we've had to here) it will work."As with most repairs, prep is the hard (time consuming) part, the actual installation of the new surround is easy. Definitely watch the vendor video (Cerwin Vega repair) before starting. I wasn't able to remove the paper gasket but also received guidance from vendor that gasket is not needed. Used rubbing alcohol to facilitate removal of old foam and a slotted screwdriver to scrape the speaker bracket to remove gasket. Per the email advice outer edge of new foam was affixed to rounded edge of metal bracket without difficulty. Speakers sound great. Highly recommended.

The video makes it look easy. It’s a little bit more complicated. The residue on the cone is hard to remove. The rubber ring on the outside is like concrete. It took about one hour to clean it up enough for the new replacement glue to adhere. I used a lot of nail polish remover. That said, I think it is a good replacement however it takes a lot of preparation before installation.

I bought this for woofers in the RS Optimus 77. Material on the outer portion that attaches to the frame is a little lean. I thought I did a good job centering the surround when I attached it to the cone but when it came time to attach to the frame and I centered the cone there was just enough material to attach to one side. Be careful. I have done this job before on several speakers but always used the 'shim' approach to keeping the cone centered so I was a bit leery about the method recommended by this kit but it worked just fine. It was nice not to have to remove the dust cap. The glue is a little faster than I care for but, then again, one is able to finish the job in a day rather than a few using the 'overnight' white glue. If I can do it, anyone can and I have old shaky hands besieged by carpal tunnel.

Worked well on my Optimus speakers by Radio Shack. Sound like new now.

The product didn't fit, but the seller made it right. Hence the five stars. My speakers are optimus Pro X77. When I received the foam diameter was just too small to effectively glue to the metal and a little small at the cone side. I went to their website and found that the dimensions listed for the FSK-5L were basically the same as the speakers. I called them and they fixed it with no delay. I just had to trim the outside edge by 1/32nd so they would align perfectly. I would suggest you first look at the site to check the sizes. Installation was no problem. The glue is easy to handle.

I was skeptical at first but the price was right instead of new speakers.Instructions were good, and as long as you prep the speakers by removingall of the old foam, things go relatively smoothly. The foam for my optimusbookshelf speakers was slightly on the small side so there was not muchoverlap to glue the foam to the speakers but I got it to work with a little messierthan normal glue job. After I put the speaker grill back on you can't tell therewas ever anything done to the speaker. Speaker sounds awesome again!!

My speakers are like brand new. Very easy product to use. I recommend this to anyone that wants to bring their old speakers back to life! Also,fast shipping!!!
